Speeding fine - Phew!!!

I say phew! because as I was opening up the letter from the Kantonspolizei my hands were a-trembling with a cold sweat forming on my brow..... but wait a second, it only says 20 CHF on the orange slip
Glance through the letter and basically I've been caught doing 1 Km/h over the limit on a stretch of motorway between Basel & Freiburg (Germany).

What the letter says:
Speed limit = 80 Km/h
My speed = 86 Km/h
Tolerance = 5 Km/h
Overspeed = 1 Km/h

How lucky am I, or how petty are they?

The offence took place on the 24th June, so I am actually quite impressed by the speed at which these two sovereign nations have managed to identify and collar me. However in terms of legalities, I guess its just an 'invitation' to pay from the Basel-Stadt Kantonspolizei... they can't make me pay, surely??

Forget trying to wrangle out of it, just pay the 20.- and be done with it

Any fighting and it will cost you more...

Re: Speeding fine - Phew!!!

20 Fr. is the Swiss speeding fine for 1 km/h too fast. Are you sure you weren't flashed before you entered Germany? I mean that would be rather bold from the German police, to charge Swiss drivers according to our domestic fine scale...

There's no camera in Germany before the border control on the Autobahn, but there's at least one in Basel a couple of kms before. I know it well, as I too got flashed and a fine for being 1km over the limit . Maybe it was that camera, but odd they mention Freiburg!

Errr, I think you might be right. The letter states "Autobahn A2 - Fahrtrichtung: Deutschland", which I thought meant it happened in Germany

That to me says driving direction Germany....

Did you happen to come from Baselland or just inside Basel, and then take that curve where the road splits into the city and the Autobahn?

I would have come from within Basel City (where I live) onto the highway, and I think I know what bend you are referring to.

That is the last one in Switzerland, as far as I know. I don't recall seeing any others, but it has been a couple of months since I've driven there.

That one on the curve is evil, evil, evil. Then again, it caught me when they were doing all that construction and had changed the speed limit - and I was unaware. Sneaky......

Re: Speeding fine - Phew!!!

Definitely thank your lucky stars.. I got done on the same stretch (going a bit faster), but was prosecuted by the German police.. fine was around 100E.. still, they were kind enough to include a photo of my blank 'motorway stare' from behind the steering wheel of my car
