| | | is a white parking zone free indefinately?
Hello,
Near where I live in Pully there is a white parking zone, both a small car park and space outlined on the road in white. There are no meters, and looking on the web and from my general Swiss parking knowledge (!) I know that I can leave my car for free. My question is however, is there any maximum time limit? I'm going on holiday for a week and plan to leave my car there during this time, but of course I'd prefer not to be welcomed home by a parking fine ...
Accordingly does anyone know how long you can leave your car for in a white parking zone?
Thanks
Patrious

White zones are normally free and unlimited. Just be sure to check for any signs (as you have done) to make sure there are no specific exceptions for that spot.
Second thing is to make sure that it is white and not yellow (which means private even if there are not necessarily any additional markings).

Patrious | | | | | Your local commune could answer this more definitely. Ask the village policeman.

2nd that - where I live in Adliswil the street parking is in white marked spaces - I thought they were free but they're not if you park regularly - we received an invoice from Stadt Adliswil, we have to pay 30 CHF a month to use the street parking, you'd best check with your commune to be on the safe side.

In principle, some white parking zones have a parking meter where you have to pay, and in most municipalities, there is a mandatory night parking fee ('street light parking fee').
Another issue are roadworks: They are announced well in advance in the official journal (often a local newspaper), however, who reads the official journal all the time? A friend of mine left his car in a white parking zone and went on holidays for three weeks. Upon his return, the car was missing, it had been towed due to roadworks during his holidays …

Martin | | | | | Parking slots can be rezoned with 72 hours notice. Reasons could be roadworks, diversions (roadworks on a main road causes traffic rerouted through a side road where parking is normally allowed), event, special purposes, security, calamities (flooding? snowfall? burst pipes?) etc.
So parking anywhere longer than 72 hours is inadvisable and can result in towing and parking charges.

I googled this topic and was surprised to find that each Swiss municipality has its own divergent rules! Indeed unlimited and free in some jurisdictions, with parking meters in others, some allow 4 hours free, others charge for overnight parking, etc.
This forum cannot answer the interesting question, unless someone here is sure about the Pully rules.

R : Cette autorisation de parquer vous coûtera Fr.30.-- par mois. | | | | | Martin

Martin | | | | | So it costs CHF 30. The 72 hour rezoning rule would nevertheless apply?
