What to do with winter tyres?

Hi.

As I have mentioned in a previous thread we are returning to Spain very shortly. Now one of the things I will be taking back with me is my old (1997) Audi cabriolet. But I have two sets of tyres here, something I have never needed anywhere else, and as I am not planning on spending too much time in the Pyrenees in winter, I don't think transporting the tyres is very timeworthy.

But what should I do with the ones I have? Are there second hand tyre dealers who might be interested in the ones I have? I would put the up for general sale, but considering that the car is not new nor common I doubt there is much of a market.

Any ideas or suggestions?

as ever many thanks in advance.

M.

Co-Op and Migro usually have notice boards where you can put adverts. I’ve often seen tyres advertised. Might be worth a try.

If you want a few francs for them put them in the For Sale/Wanted section or just giving them away try the Free Stuff.

In front of my car in the garage, neatly stacked against the wall. Just like my neighbour does.

Re: What to do with winter tyres?

In an apartment complex parking garage you are allowed to have one extra set of tires/wheels per car. I keep mine in my basement space as tires/wheels are not covered by your automobile insurance in the event of theft since they were not mounted on the vehicle at the time. Many service garages and automobile dealers have storage space available (for a nominal fee) as well.

You can certainly sell them, lots to be found on Ricardo. If I was in your shoes I'd just drive on them, I think you'll get more out of them that way than selling them.

Re: What to do with winter tyres?

People will start thinking about winter tires pretty soon so there might be a few people interested if you offer them at a nominal fee. As tires are a consumable, don't try and get your money back on them. The worst case you want to avoid is having to pay a disposal fee to get rid of them.

If you are stuck for space, places like Adam Touring will store them for you and exchange them for your summer tyres. We don't have a garage and our cellar is too full of junk to store the tyres so the chap at Adam Touring takes them for us (for a cost).

Re: What to do with winter tyres?

I would agree that you'd get more value out of them by driving on them - they will have practically no value. Spanish winters have seen snow once a year in places; I know a colleague was in the Bernabeu one year when it started snowing like crazy.

Of course Spanish traffic was paralysed by the white stuff....
