Re: Motorcycle exhaust noise requirements?

the cops here don't care about tinted visors; for personal safety, I usually carry a clear one too - after riding home in the rain from the airport in the dark with a dark visor on, I decided to do this!! (but this could make a whole new thread)

Re: Motorcycle exhaust noise requirements?

i used to use a tinted one as then i could flip it up in tunnels - a clear one with sunglasses sometimes left me a little blind in the dark tunnels

there's no issue with dark visors etc over here - not like in the UK!! egads!

Boxman - without a can - a BMW boxer engine sounds VERY sweet

For a while i had a Y pipe instead of the cat and a Titanium straight through exhaust - had to put the baffle in as on wind down it spat 1m flames out the back!!!

but the boxer engine with the y-pipe and a sports can - oh soooo sweet!! smoother, more power, fatter sound.... was lovely!

but alas - didn't want to risk losing my license for it.... which they can do when you ditch the cat and stuff

still got the y-pipe, EFI sports chip and pipe if you're interested though

Re: Motorcycle exhaust noise requirements?

So, lets say there is no importer for the exhaust here but it's actually street legal in the US. Is that ok?

Thank you all for inspiring me to make an avatar
Same here
Would love to know if you can make the fueling a little bit less abrupt on the speed triple. It is kind of on-off at low speed.

Re: Motorcycle exhaust noise requirements?

I think that may just be a problem with FI bikes. I know that my previous FI bike had the same behavior.

You are probably right. My previous Honda Nighthawk was very smooth and it had carbs (as long as they were synchronized correctly).
I would be interested to know if your new cans improve the driveability.

I believe the Y is in order to remove the cat? I kind of like the sewing machine sound, it grows on you after time.

The bike before was a VFR. The one with the VTEC - that was something that never got out of 2nd gear

Unfortunately, no. You can contact the manufacturer of the exhaust to ask them, but just because it's street legal in the US doesn't mean it is also in CH or Europe.

Regarding FI vs carb bikes... I don't know anything about the triple, but my FZ1 (fuel injected) was so bad that it was pretty dangerous to get on the throttle in the middle of a turn. It was impossible, no matter how slow you came on the throttle, to make a perfectly smooth off/on transition.

I fixed it with a little thing called a "fuel cut eliminator", then made it even smoother with a Power Commander III, ignition module, and a good map. Now it's easily the smoothest bike that I've ever ridden. I guess you should get on the Triumph forums to see what's available for you guys

Re: Motorcycle exhaust noise requirements?

The Triple's not too much of a problem, it's just got so much torque that you do need to be a tad careful dropping it into first and not give it too much gas or it might launch you into orbit.

Interesting. The FZ1 had quite a reputation regarding fueling.
The triple is not that bad (especially after 2007) but I have seen better.
