Re: CHF 350 fine for passing a red light

250 francs. 4.1 seconds over the red

Just gonna shut up & pay it - I was bracing myself for a much higher fine with the possibility of of some kind of summons as I thought I might have gone through the red a lot later than I did.

Shit happens.
(and annoyingly, I was running a good will pick up errand for a friend with no car)

I am wondering whether anyone has ever contested a car fine in Switzerland, and whether they have been successful.

My husband and I were in the car in a lane where the light was red for turning right. After about a minute the light for the left lane to go straight ahead changed to green, so my husband switched across to go into that lane and drove straight on. He must have crossed some line in the original lane and we were flashed and now have an enormous fine for having driven through a red light.

Do we have a case for contesting this, or do you think the swiss authorities will insist that we pay up?
I did exactly that one time in Zürich just after the Milchbuch (did I spell that correctly) tunnel & it cost me over CHF700! So you sound lucky to me with only CHF350.

Crossing white line at red turn light to go straight in Lugano

I had an almost identical scenario...also 350.- fine.
I went to the central police office in Zurich to ask about it. The man there said the law changed only recently...last year I believe. He said a lot of the police is against it but the judges needed to come up with "another way of generating more income".
So there's no getting off the hook there.
Itried to explain that I didn't run the red light, since I went through the green light. But once you are in that lane, passed the solid white line, there's no escape.

Sorry!
I just did this same thing in Lugano and got flashed. Im worried that the red turn light was on for a while. Does the find go up? 350 sucks but more really sucks. I would also accept 100 for crossing the line. But I didn't run the red. That's clear and on camera.

I crossed the line again in and place later that day. A police yelled at me but then left me be. I don't speak Italian.

the minimum for a red light is 250, I think.

this is not by the tunnel underneath the railway station is it? Was the policeman in blue or beige?

Re: CHF 350 fine for passing a red light

Hubbie also got a fine for passing a red light in Zürich.
Thing is, he stopped but not in front of the white line, just over the white line with his front tyres. So got flashed, 250CHF, for stopping at the lights but not at the right spot.
We decided to just pay up...

I have a Blackvue in my car now. It's a good little unit and records full HD. It's a DR500GW HD, I have mounts and power for both cars and one unit.

Sorry but 4.1 seconds is a LONG time. Never mind "shit happens" - that is terrible driving and you are lucky not to have badly hurt yourself or someone else !!!

250 is minimum but what is max?

It was in the center. The cop was on a moto. He just left me alone when he realized I could speak Italian. Just drove away.

Sorry!
So I called the Lugano police. They were pretty nice. Said it was not a big deal but likely would be a fine. And I an look at the film there or send somebody. Luckily I know a lawyer in Lugano.

The thing is. The camera took the photo when I was in the middle of the intersection going straight. Through a green. There would be no photo evidence
of me crossing the line. Only that the camera might have been set up to detect this. But in the end this would be hard to prove.

Lets see. Maybe they only get me for crossing the white line. Which is what would be fair. I never entered the intersection in the wrong lane.

My daughter just got a CHF 250 fine for passing a red, she's happy that they didn't take away her learner's permit!

Because they are not meant to be a reward but a punishment?

The memory and the price tag will stay for at least ten years. Considering that it was a pretty low fine
