[Split thread] Looking for cheap tyres in the Baden area

View Post
I really appreciate all the information because we've just been told by the dealership that 3 of our winter tires have to be replaced because the profile is close to the minimum. (we keep our tires there and they replace them).

I don't quite understand it, because we've had the tires on for 3 months in 2008 (feb-april) and then nov 2008 to april 2009, and our car has 30K km on it. I suppose we probably could have worn them down, but we're going to have to get a second opinion on this.

And I was checking these sites - I used a similar service in the US when I had to replace the tires on my car there, and it worked really well.

Hi to all
We had a similar incident and now we need four tyres for a Cadillac srx
Any idea where we can find used or very cheap tyres?

Still not enough info. What make, model of tyre? If you just want the cheapest serviceable tyre available, then CHF2,000 is far too much for 4 tyres.

I just bought four Pirelli winter tyres for my large SUV and paid about CHF1,000 (including fitting and a wheel alignment) at a tyre centre just over the border in Germany. And yes, I paid Swiss Mwst.

If you are employed by ABB or Alstom, you should check on the company intranet as there are some places in the Baden area, including those that sell tires, that offer discounts to employees of those companies.

Perhaps that will help.

Some ideas from the e-pneus.ch website (the OP was not happy with them) that should give you an idea of pricing. You will need to tell the garage what you are willing to spend or ask one of your co-workers the name of a small garage in the area that is know for aggressive pricing. You will save a lot by shopping around.

I like the Bridgestone Blizzak LM25 tyres. CHF 270 delivered + normally CHF 40 to mount them. The Continentals have good reviews as well. Michelin has not had top test results in the last couple of years. Some people swear by them. I have run a ML500 on the Pirelli Scorpions and been very happy.

Good luck.

You can go to pretty much any dealer in Germany and get a quote for a fraction of the Swiss dealers. I can understand it for work as it is cheaper there, but tyres really stick out to have a huge price difference... I only buy it there.

Re: Winter tyres - don't f*&k with e-pneus.ch...

I have general grabbers as summer tyres for my car - 255/60 R18 if I remember right. I run winter with Yokahama 255/65 R18.

Grabbers were about 850 francs from reifendirekt.ch

Fitting was about 150 by my local garage.

Euromaster in Weil am Rhein -- about a 45 minute drive from you, I guess.

Treverus is correct, just about any tyre centre in Germany will be cheaper tha in CH. And there are plenty of tyres at Euromaster that are a lot cheaper than the ones I chose.

And please update your profile ...
