Did I just dodge a couple of bullets? / Motorbike import fees

Or am I just waiting for some nasty surprise in the mail? So I went and did my control for my imported Triumph motorcycle yesterday and they didn't say that I had to do anything and gave me my documents back. I then went and got my plates today and that went as well as could be expected and I got my new plates. I also got the giro to pay for the registration, plates etc.
I don't seem to have been nailed for any taxes (I was kind of unsure if I was going to get nailed for this since while the biked was first registered for the road in 2008, it wasn't gifted to me until May 2009 and I got here in late August. If there were any taxes, would they have made me pay them when I got my plates or would they send me something in the mail? I'm wondering how long do I hold my breath?

Re: Did I just dodge a couple of bullets?

That's what I still expect, but don't know how long I should wait in breathless anticipation of my invitation to pay.

I'm still happy they didn't find anything technically wrong with the bike that required I go and spend a thousand chufs to fix.

Oh, one thing for you Americans, make sure you get your title documents back from these guys. Maybe I made the mistake of showing it to them but they were going to keep it (probably because it 'looked official'). They didn't seem to understand that, in the US, the registration and the title are two separate documents. I finally convinced them to make themselves a copy. According to the fellow at the window: 'No one's ever asked for that back before'......

Is it a vintage Triumph?

Cheers

No, sorry. 2008 Speed Triple. Love those old Triumphs though.

Re: Did I just dodge a couple of bullets? / Motorbike import fees

Hmmm. When I registered my bike (which had been sitting around unregistered for awhile) I was directly given a bill for the road tax remaining for the year. I registered it in July and the fee was about half of what a full year's tax should have been. Perhaps as you registered so late in the year they are letting you off? (not very likely. I really can't imagine this being true.)
