Zurich Airport Parking Needed - Christmas Time

Hello,

Does anyone have a suggestion for inexpensive car parking for a 3 week period (Dec 22 - Jan 12)? The airport parking is expensive and I am hoping for a reasonable alternative.

Thanks,
David

Obviously. For the 44 CHF you pay a day at the airport parking, you better get yourself a taxi from your home to the next station and then take the train into the airport.

As you apparently are in the Zurich area, you ought to use public transport. For people from farther outside, there are alternatives like the parking facilities near to the Church of Glattbrugg, but then there is a walkback of 10 to 20 minutes to the nearest bus station. The prices at the airport have been raised exactly with the intention to "convince" people to use public transport !

Re: Zurich Airport Parking Needed - Christmas Time

I guess I need to clarify.

I don't have parking anywhere, so I need to find a place to keep my car for the next three weeks whether it be in Zurich or near the airport.

Any suggestions?

Re: Zurich Airport Parking Needed - Christmas Time

The long-term parking (60?) is ok. Not too expensive and close enough that you can walk to the terminal.

Then you need a parking permit from your local Gemeinde / Kreisbüro for the period. Display this in the windscreen and park on a blue zone. Isn't this what you do anyway??

Here is the website for Zurich Stadt - contact details are at the bottom of the right hand column (German only). You don't need to have converted the plates over yet to get one as long as you have an address. There are a couple of cars outside my flat who had DE plates for a few weeks.

http://www.stadt-zuerich.ch/pd/de/in..._anwohner.html.

Your profile says you're moving in January so it may be tricky to get a permanent permit now, but worth asking them. If you can't get one they do temporary passes - CHF15 per day, not sure if there is a limit. My technical parking German language skills are poor

Where are you parking at the moment without a permit?

Re: Zurich Airport Parking Needed - Christmas Time

ok, i get it - you are moving here in mid jan, or moving into an apartment then, and want somewhere to keep your car before then?

here would be my suggestion - and try writing to them in english (you may get lucky) explain that you only want the parking place for 3 weeks (and why) and you may get lucky.

Re: Zurich Airport Parking Needed - Christmas Time

There are three price categories for parking lots at Zurich airport. The cheapest one is "P60" which is in 10 minutes walking distance from the airport (or take buses 732, 759 or 768 from "Werft"). P60 costs 263 bucks for three weeks. For details see here, for tariffs see here.

Re: Zurich Airport Parking Needed - Christmas Time

Hi David! where do you live?

There is plenty of street parking by my house. I don't live in the city and I am 20 minutes from the airport (by train it should be around 30 if you take the fast train from Altstetten). So send me a PM if you want to park by my house and I can keep an eye on it (except for night time critter visitors)

Yes, go to Glattbrugg to the Oberhauserstrasse near to the cemetary and church. The parking is free of charge and I had a car parked there for 5 weeks without any problem. But again, the REAL thing to do is to leave the car where it is NOW and to use public transport.
