See post #4 above on this thread for timetable
The ticket machine accepts cards. If you look nice at the driver he'll help you with which ticket to buy

The machine usually also accepts Euro's incase you have that instead of CHFs.

Re: Getting to Basel airport via public transport?

I have to pick up 4 people at Basel Airport today around about 18:30. I mentioned this to a friend at work & he told me the traffic to & from the airport is quite bad with roadworks & then put rush hour traffic on top. He reckoned from Zurich it could take around 2 hours + to make the journey either way. Any locals rekon it will be this bad? I do have the option of the train which will also take 2 hours.

Realistically, I would also plan with at least 90 mins, since Thursday evening could be busy on the highway around Basel - lots of people heading home for the day / weekend.

I think so, but the signals aren't that clear so far. I'm waiting on a few more replies. Just to be sure, to be sure.

The most traffic you will hit will be when you get to the motorway exit to go into the city. I would reckon around 1h30m to 1h45m max as the airport is on the other side of Basel. To be honest, if you come off at the Badischer Bahnhof junction it's pretty straighforward from there. Once you're past Badischer you should be quite quick.

Train and bus would be my least favourite option especially as it's late night shopping night.

And for those asking, yes it is bus 50 from the station to the airport.

Re: Getting to Basel airport via public transport?

I'm flying from Basel for the first time today.
Even though it's an extra hour's journey than Zurich, it lands 40 minutes earlier at Gatwick and as it's a bit cheaper it seems to make sense when visiting a party town like Brighton or London.

Anyhow thanks to this thread I can get there easily by train + bus but two people now have told me that the signage in Basel airport is pretty poor. Any tips on how to navigate more easily? We don't need to check any bags. So straight to the Easyjet departure gates. Are they difficult to find?
Thanks in advance,
HB2

Just go straight through security, Basel Airport is pretty small, and the signage is clear. The euroairport website http://www.euroairport.com/EN/horair...php?PAGEID=325 also tells you some more info, the Easyjet departures are usually from the spur, gate 30 something I think.

The 50 Bus (Euro Airport)
Leave right outside of Banhoff.

Every fifteen. It is impossible to miss. Big green bus.
Or orange. (I can't seem to find that thread earlier in the year which dealt with this topic in amazing excruciating detail with photos, paced distances etc. One of the funniest ones I've read on here.)

Bugger, jrspet has found it!

I think the Easyjet sponsorship has expired; all the buses are back to their usual green.

How did I miss this thread? Absolutely sublime. Anyone who has not read it, make yourself a cup of tea/coffee/something stronger and settle down to enjoy 15 minutes of parallel universe stomach aching laughter. Special mention must go to Carlos R's mincing measurement strides, Adrianlondon's secret hidden busstop key and Mirfield's lovely little detail re b*ll crushing bus entrance barriers. Oh and lovely JrsPet for such photographic wizardry.

And actually, in between the amusement, all the information is in there to make your trip to the airport not just very very funny, but really, quite hasslefree.

Re: Getting to Basel airport via public transport?

If you have a Gemeinde or SBB variant of the Tageskarte ( Day Card / Carte journalière commune ) or a Swiss GA, the bus ride is included ie no need to pay for the bus ride to/fro Basel SBB and Basel Euroairport.

Can´t quite recall when I said that, but if I have done so, I wanted to inform you that eversince I got a GA ( and REKA cheques ), I do not advocate that

And there has been ticket checks on the bus 50 route, I might add.

Re: Getting to Basel airport via public transport?

Oh dear I simply wanted to know about navigating inside the terminal. I don't care about the darned green orange number 50 bus with or without Greek flags, I'm side I can find that on my own. It's terminally boring me till I feel I'm gonna bus...t! :-)

Re: Getting to Basel airport via public transport?

Hi guys i'm new here, been in Switzerland a month love it need to go to Portugal for a little bit to see my brother.
I'm looking at booking a flight leaving BSL airport at 06:40 but im a little worried about getting there via public transport i'm currently staying in saint imier but would be leaving from biel/bienne or Basel city itself, i had a look on the public transport website above listing bus times to BSL but they appear to start running around 11, are there any buses or trains that run 05:00ish?

Cheers guys
