Getting to Basel airport via public transport?

I'm sorry if this has been asked before, or if there are Swiss public transport websites that are easy to use and the answers are obvious - but its a busy weekend and I'm not at home so dont have my own computer so thought it would just be quicker to ask if anyone knew the answer

A friend of mine has to catch the train to Basel airport (from Biel).. I dont know my way around Basel well, but from what Ive seen the train station wasn't near the airport. Is there a bus or another train or something that she'll need to catch? Is it easy? She doesnt speak anything other than English and I feel bad sending her off alone. Especially when I have no idea what she should do once she gets off the train in Basel..

If anyone could let me know I would reallyy appreciate it!! Sorry if its a dumb question!

Lucy

Re: Basel airport??

Yes there is a bus right outside the station that goes to the airport! If she exits the station and walks right the bus stop is just there! Buses run every 6/7 mins.

Re: Basel airport??

I take that bus all the time, it's number 50, you can buy tickets from a ticket machine at the bus stop (or from the ticket counter inside, you can also combine bus and train on one ticket if your friend needs to take the train) and you can check that it does indeed run every 10 min between Basel EuroAirport and Basel SBB, Bahnhof on Sbb.ch

It does say airport on the bus and inside Basel train station, there are little airplane signs to follow to the bus stops.

Re: Basel airport??

Bus no. 50 goes to the Basel Euroairport. When you walk out of the Bahnhoff SBB, the bus stop is located a few metres to your left.

The destination on the bus shows "Euroairport".

Re: Basel airport??

Hi there,

Yep there's a bus from outside the Basel SBB to the Airport its Bus number 50 and it comes every 10 to 15 minutes its very easy to find the bus stop. So when you leave the train station turn left and the bus stop is only a few yards away you see a green sign for the Euro Airport Bus Number 50...

Don't worry at all its very easy to get to the Airport...

Have a lovely Sunday

Louise

Re: Basel airport??

Someone can probably explain it better but in case no-one else is around:

If you come out of the main Exit of Basel SBB (Centralbahnstrasse) and turn left walking along the 'front' of the station (staying on the same side of the road) you can already see the Bus-stop from which the bus leaves for the run to the airport.

Busline Nr 50. I cannot remember if it says Airport on the front - I don't bother to look! Your friend will probably see others dragging their cases too, as quite a few people go to the airport by bus. (In case your friend has a good sense of direction and begins to worry - it doesn't matter that the bus looks as if it is on the wrong side of the road and will go the 'wrong way' - it turns and travels up the Viaduktstrasse in the correct direction).
It goes about every ten minutes I think. The ticket machine is at the bus stop. Sorry I don't know the price. I buy a ticket straight through.

Hope this helps and that your friend has a good journey.

If you're arriving by train it would make sense to buy a through train ticket from your starting station to the airport. That would cover you for the bus and avoid the hassle of buying another ticket etc.

Re: Getting to Basel airport via public transport?

Public transport route planner. Good 'ol SBB. You can type in street addresses, and it works out the nearest tram or bus stop for you.

Re: Getting to Basel airport via public transport?

Thanks everyone She read through everyone's replies to make sure she didnt miss anything and made it to her flight at Basel airport with no troubles

She's such a nervous person (I would be too, being a 21 year old girl alone in a country where I didnt know ANY of the language trying to make it to the airport on time by myself).. but was very reassured by everyone.

I dont know what I'd do without EF sometimes.....

Thanks

You never mentioned it was a 21 year old girl. If you had, I'm sure you'd have been inundated with offers to escort her personally.

Re: Getting to Basel airport via public transport?

Hi,

I am landing at Basel airport at around 21.35 p.m this friday.

I got to know that i need to take bus 50 to the train station to go to solothrun.

Does the bus run after 10 pm ? and most important thing is , where can i get the ticket ? I don't have any coins with me I am afraid.

Please advice.

Cheers,
Karen
