Van Rental in Zug (or Switzerland generally)

I've checked back four pages so I don't think this has been asked before - or at least not for four pages. When we arrive in Zug we will have a flat (hopefully), but not a stick of furniture. We plan to go to Ikea - no jokes please we are broke. I am not sure if it is the same as in Dubai and England, you pick up flat pack and assemble it at home. As we need two beds, mattresses, tables etc we will need a fair sized van. Is it possible to hire one for the day? I have to say, while I was looking bemusedly at the Ikea website I did see a van logo, maybe they will do home deliveries.
I look forward to hearing from anyone.
Lesley

Hi Lesley,

I don't think you need to fret. Like most countries Switzerland does have vans, and yes, you can hire them. As you already noticed, Ikea does deliver and will rent you a van if you want. Switzerland may lack some services, but transportation isn't one of them. You've probably also noticed MobilityŽ CarSharing [MOBIPUBLIC01] mentioned on other threads.

If you are considering IKEA home delivery, ask how long it takes. Last time I ordered a Sofa, it took 6 weeks.

It's very easy to hire a van from IKEA for the day, when I did this a little over a year ago, it cost 70 CHF.

I would go down the renting a van for the day route, we did this as the ikea deliveries were booked up for up to 6 weeks - we went shopping before hand decided what we wanted then the followinng day did a mad dash around various shops with a van and bought everything we needed in one day.

As Mark says check out Mobility - we used Avis as we didn't know too much about Mobility at the time.

Probably important to point something out here... The reason it took six weeks had nothing to do with the fact is was home delivery - it would have been the same if you picked it up in-store. That's a general issue when ordering sofas from shops that don't keep every model in stock (most sofa shops have long lead times for sofas)
