| | | Tracing driver thru their number plate
I am sure a while back somebody mentioned that you can trace a driver through his number plate?
Is that really the case? Is this something you can do on the internet??
Does anybody know the site; I would like to test it!!

Its a canton thing...
I went to the Bern Strassenvekehrsamt with my Ausweis and they gave me the details of the driver.

Send a text with the numberplate to 939
Alternatively go here and do it online.

In Zug, you can buy a directory of auto licenses for Canton Zug at the petrol station.

You should block this information because anyone can find out when you are not at home.

Most CH license plates can be found on line. I believe that you can block this information being in the public domain in all Cantons if you so desire. Our company cars are anonymous to Joe Public as I took them off the register the day that ZH made the information available on the internet.

Hi, any advice on how to remove car rego from publicly available information,
I live in VS ?
(I still cannot believe this is not considered breach of privacy).
I have just decided to purchase my first car here in CH but this to me is a concern.
Thx
Pete

Pete | | | | | Very convenient; you do not like the way that somebody is driving in front of you? Get on your Iphone & look up the driver & his phone number -give him a call | | This user would like to thank marton for this useful post: | |

| | | Re: Tracing driver thru their number plate I don't know, what's the issue? It's not like back home, you cut someone up (not me, not intentionally anyway, and always with an apology if accidental) and they pull you over and offer you out. I'd much rather the Swiss, civilised way of sorting it out, probably involves lawyers and fines etc, but results in much less violence, and better driving. Perhaps I'm missing the point? Explain it to me, please? |

I saw a show with Jeremy Clarkson a few months ago ( based on his hair I think it was pre'TopGear ) in which he was driving thru Geneva and explained that the reason Swiss drivers were so polite ( really long ago ) was that you could buy a book in Payot with all number plates listed along with the owners name and number.
ahhh the good old days. |

On another site it says Autoindex VD - Vaud / Waadt (Auskunft nur schriftlich) which means that you have to write to 'them'. |
