Emergency # ??? For being pulled over by CH police

My husband was pulled over sunday by an un marked police car.. a BMW. Reason? I still have my Florida plates, and usually get stopped at the borders.. no problem, I expect that. They just had a light in the window said "STOP".

My Question, Being from florida, there is a number you can call if your being pulled over by an unmarked car. It's #777. This gets you immediately to Highway patrol, and you can tell them your being summoned to pull over by an un marked car, and they will verify a yes or no. The reason for this is past murders on women and couples being pulled over not by police, and the bad guy had the similar lights. This is a safety thing.

If I were to get pulled over, I would be afraid to stop, unless in a city or town, but in the farmlands, I would like to know if there is a number I could call for my safety, prior to actually pulling over, that would reach police to verify it is a valid stop.

Once I receive my B permit, I can solve this problem with my tags. Still waiting.

if anyone knows of such a number "if it even exists here" please inform. Would be good for all people to know. Not sure if this is the kind of thing that goes on over here, but would be nice to be informed anyway.

Thank you..

Welcome to Switzerland. It hasn't happened in Switzerland yet so there's no need for such a number. Thank God.

Fortunately, these types of things don't happen in CH like in the US (knock wood). Don't worry about it. It is far safer here than Florida!

HA HA HA! I actually thought of that one at the border once, but figured I'd get myself into trouble saying I was lost and can't find the bridge back home.. LOL

Hey, thanks guys, I was just wondering. Glad to know it's not that bad.. Guess i should just bite the bullet and pull over instead!

I guess we are waiting until someone gets killed and then will implement the system. Why should things be learned the hard way

Yeah, well, of course I was thinking that as I was typing my response. But really, what are the chances?? Highly unlikely.

Why do you even go out in the morning...? It's dangerous outside... you can get robbed, humiliated, hit by a car or shot in the street... there is really no reason to allow yourself any freedom (TM) here....

No, there is not and you should maybe think about raising your standards when making comparisons

Yes and no. In Geneva there has been more than a few instances of robbers masquerading as police offices in uniform and without. This was on foot, but it wouldn't be too much different in a car.

A basic rule of thumb is that the first question should be to ask them for official ID before proceeding.

Point taken, but at that moment, asking could be too late back home... I know to be cautious in Geneva, thanks for the heads up..

Re: Emergency # ??? For being pulled over by CH police

The number is not necessary here. Not because the chances of being murdered by law enforcement impersonators is out of the question, it does happen. It's just that Swiss lack the media beat-ups, hollywood brainwashing, and general ignorance to believe that they almost certain to be victims of some terrible criminal act.

Therefore, such a service is would be wasted here.

P.S. In Europe generally, you'd probably have a better chance of coming to grief at the hands of real police, not imposters.

All very well, but I have to admit that I wouldn't know a real ID from a fake one

Maybe it's time to get your plates changed.

I was pulled over by a marked police car in the UK. Thing was, the silly sod was sitting right on my tail, flashing his lights, and I couldn't see he was a police car - until he overtook me. ( It was a long time ago, with a car which, while legal, didn't have great all-round visibility ).

"In Europe generally" maybe. But I got scammed by a couple of fake cops in Moldova. And then mugged, robbed. The moral: ask to see the gun first. The badge or ID is easy to fake, especially if you don't speak Ruritanian. Or whatever.

Re: Emergency # ??? For being pulled over by CH police

Does that mean youre allowed to use mobile phones while driving in Florida?
And, more importantly, here? (I'll say again - in case people get scared again by the thought of me driving around without knowing the rules - I dont drive here, but like to know the rules to keep "my driver" in line )
