| | | Driver license at the age of 16 in Geneva
Im new here at Geneva and will be turning 16 in July. i wanted to know if i can have a driver license for a vehicle that has a 45 kph limit speed.
If so will it only be the Smart cars model or can i buy a car and make it so the limit speed of the engine on the car i bought is 45 kph only?
hope for a fast answer
jacob.

why the hell would you buy one of those 45 kph cars?
Not only do they look ridiculous, you cant do anything with them.
They are not like a smart car in any way. and no you cannot make a car go slower....
Safe your money and get a moped or supermotard (50cc) instead of that thing.

you can have a F-Licence but I'm not sure of the kind of cars. Véhicules automobiles à l'exception des motocycles dont la vitesse maximale n'excède pas 45 km/h. Motorized vehicles except for motorcycles
the maximum speed of which does not exceed 45 km / h. http://www.ge.ch/san/permis-de-condu...is_de_conduire |

save your money and buy a moped??? that he'll only be able to ride for a year until he can buy a real car, yep a really good way to save money that!!!
Sure you can't buy a modded car? we have several real smart cars in our village with 45kph stickers on the back.

A moped is MUCH cheaper than one of those things. So yes he would be saving money if he needs transport.
Dont forget He is 16 not 70.
Like this: http://www.50cc-motorcycles.com/
Find one of them used and you will be much happier

The sch!t I did between 16 and 18, whew, still feels more like 10 years passed rather than 2!

I checked and this is what I found on your website.
Special Categories
F - Motor vehicles except motorcycles with a maximum speed exceeding 45 km / h.
Minimum age
- 16 years work vehicles, tractors, motor trucks, farm vehicles
- 18: other vehicles
Medical examination
no
G - Agricultural motor vehicles whose maximum speed does not exceed 30 mph, except for special vehicles.
- 14
no
M - Mopeds.
- 14
no
Looks like mopeds, unless you want to drive a tractor, I expect that a tractor will cost more than a moped.
When I got here, and wanted to insure and license my newly purchased car, I discovered that even the official forms don't want to have to admit that you could have been driving at 16. I my case this was true as I was born and raised in the USA.
Good Luck,
Brian.

jacob. | | | | | My advise if you are new to Switzerland would be to get a bicycle or moped and drive on the roads.
This gives you so much more perception of road situations than jumping straight into a car and makes leraning and passing your driving test easier.
I certainly would not buy one of the vehicles you are contemplating on as a babe magnet |

You could take a quick flight to the USA, get your full drivers license there, come back and be the only kid in your village with a real "out of the cerealbox" drivers license... not sure if that still works |

Interesting topic. Our neighbour is a mechanic and sells cars. His 16 year old son has one of these licenses and drives to his apprenticeship everyday. All his buddies are jealous of him because he has a car. The neighbourhood adults are rather disgusted because these slow cars cause havoc on the road. Other drivers are forced to pass in quite often dangerous places.
Having said that, I think the töffli gang phase in life is something no young man should miss.
