Got Busted [speeding] Today... :(

The police got me today driving at 132kms on the autobahn, and according to them i was driving on the left lane too much too, around 3kms nonstop, so i got a total fee of 180 cfhs So the question is,i havent converted my licence to the Swiss one so,will there be a problem when i'm converting in the future? Are my personal details recorded?

Thanx in advance.

How long have you been here? They document everything. Pay up or the fine will increase.

Just make sure you pay the fine within 30 days and you'll be fine.

Driving slowly (below the speed limit in favourable road conditions) is also dangerous and is more frustrating for other road users than speeding. So there's nothing to be smug about...

Re: Got Busted Today... :(

if they clocked you at 132kph that means you were doing 144kph before they took 7% off and that means your speedo was likely reading 150+.

So you got 120 francs fine on the spot? Case closed

Re: Got Busted Today... :(

Hard Luck fella. At least the penalty isn`t as bad as in the UK though, fine is the same roughly, but you don`t get penalty points.
Better luck next time!

132kms? Do you mean kmh? Otherwise you could be considered a astronaut.

Seriously 130kmh is nothing. Pay the fine, accept you got caught and move on. Move worryingly it seems they don't like outer lane hogs. A lesson to us all.

I got caught in France about 2 years ago at 128mph (over 200kmh) approaching the Swiss border, just paid the fine. (Was nothing on the road at 2am so why not?) That way next time you drive in the country you're not going to end up in a cell for the night if the police decide to stop you.

Was lucky on that one because I was doing a bit more in places.

I also have a parking ticket from St Malo (11 euros haha, not the £60 in the uk. The french plod couldn't understand why I was laughing) a ticket in Vancouver for speeding, and a parking ticket in Calgary. Paid them all, nice momentos.

Same in Brussels. The meter fee is €1.50 an hour in the central zone. If you get caught the penalty is €15.00 (but you can get a ticket twice per day, morning and afternoon) So people parking all day tend to wing-it. There are very few wardens so 3 or 4 days out of 5 you wouldn't even get a ticket. I would say around 50% of parked cars have not paid to park. All that revenue going down the drain?

Well apart from the speeding none were intentional I assure you. St Malo + Calgary ones were dumb as I should have looked at the signs.

Funny thing is I have no points on my UK license I've held for 13 years. I only speed on motorways, never in urban areas and never if it endangers other road users or myself. E.g at 6am, 11pm etc

My father jokes I need a wooden block under the right pedal. He's probably right. Impatience really more than anything else, I'm sure it will cost me If I carry on like this. If I know I have 400 miles to cover I want to get it out of the way as quickly as possible. My mate reckons I should open a taxi service called Escobar Airways.

Record in UK was Birmingham to Plymouth in 1hr 55mins. (~200 miles) I'll let you work out the average, probably never do it again. Was lucky that day with the traffic. The other problem is it tends to empty fuel tanks rather quickly.

180 CHF isn't too bad so just pay the fine. Nothing more will be said and it won't affect your insurance or anything.

If you really were only doing 132kph you are a bit unlucky to be singled out but as Lob pointed out, chances were that you were doing quite a bit more and you are getting the standard 'discount'.

Glad to see that police are cracking down on people hogging the left lane though. I wish UK and Irish police would do likewise.

Unfortunately I've never heard of anyone actually being ticketed for driving too slow and holding up traffic. To be fair on the Swiss, extremely slow drivers generally weren't a problem as most people drove at the posted limit.

Come to Ireland sometime and marvel at the numbers of people who think that doing 40mph in good conditions on a road posted at 60mph is a great idea. The strange thing is that when they hit a 30mph zone, they carry on driving at 40. It's like they have only one driving speed or something.

Probably not funny but....

It's from the good old days where drive by shootings on "the falls/shankhill" were required. Constant speed = more accuracy

I've driven in S.Ireland too. I like the way traffic moves to the left to allow you to pass.

Most likely, its not the 132 km/h (corrected this time :P ) that cought their eyes, they told me that i was occupying the left lane too much, well the funny the thing is,i was the only car driving at that part of autobahn,so anyway fellas, today's lesson is,no matter how hard you drive, drive on the right side. :P
