Taxi Fare Basel - Zurich Airport

Anyone got an idea how much a taxi from Basel Centre to Zurich airport would cost. I find that I have to be at the airport on Sunday at 05.30 and the only option using SBB leaves at 02.40 (Bad time to travel by train I suppose) Other option would be hiring a car if the combined hire charge/car park would be cheaper than a cab.

Re: Taxi Fare Basel - Zurich Airport

Oh oh oh... I once had to take a taxi too, because my colleague who booked with me had overslept for more than one hour. Pretty much in panic we jumped in the first taxi in sight, without negotiations, and drove from Zürich main station to Basel Euro Airport at normal rate. There wasn't any traffic jam and we catched the flight, but the taxi meter went up to a painful 340 Francs.

I can't guarantee anything but I'm sure there's some room to negotiate if you prepare this in advance.

Re: Taxi Fare Basel - Zurich Airport

340 actually seems cheap, from Schaffhausen to the airport it's around 150 (and it's 40 minutes).

How long are you staying away? Lately I've driven there and parked in the long-stay car park, +- 4 days (from 6am thursday to 6 pm sunday) is 76 CHF.

Hi I did this with 444 444 4 for 250 booked and paid in advance. I was not so keen about the paying in advance bit but all worked out well. That was nearly 18 months ago so might have gone up since then.

Re: Taxi Fare Basel - Zurich Airport

Hi,

why not go the night before and take a hotel as it is bound to be cheaper than the taxi price ?

Have fun

Re: Taxi Fare Basel - Zurich Airport

I would actually recommend you to take the train that leaves Basel SBB at platform 8 on 10 June 2007 (Sunday).

Basel SBB (00:08)
Zuerich HB (01:17)

You may continue to the airport with a taxi from Zuerich HB (book the taxi well in advance and confirm on Saturday).

After safely reaching airport, you can relax a bit and check-in.

If I was you, I would certainly do this rather than spending 350 bucks

Nevertheless, I wish you a safe journey !!

Re: Taxi Fare Basel - Zurich Airport

I used to get the night bus from Brugg railway station - this got me into Basel at about 05.38. However, it only used to run at weekends. Perhaps you could get a taxi to join up with one of these services and cut down the cost a little - would be a bit more hassle, but leave you with more money to spend. Did you look at flights from Basel to Zurich?

Re: Taxi Fare Basel - Zurich Airport

Honestly, you are better off taking a room at the Allegra Hotel or the Mövenpick Hotel in Glattbrugg at the airport. That's what I do every time I need to be at the ZRH airport so early. It is cheaper than a taxi and saves you the hassle of maybe arriving too late. There is a free shuttle to get you to the airport.

Plus you can sleep a tad longer!

Have you checked how much a one-way car rental is? It's most likely cheaper than train fare + hotel and certainly cheaper than a cab.

Re: Taxi Fare Basel - Zurich Airport

Probably better to get the last train to Zurich and get a few beers and red bulls down you in the late bars until it is time to go to the airport - only a couple of hours to kill and you can leave your valuables and luggage in the lockers in the railway station. Lange Strasse is interesting this time in the morning - only 10 minutes walk.

Actually I did check flights from Basel to Zurich but the first flight is 06.00 landing Zurich at 06.30 and my flight departure time in Zurich is 06.30. Just for information the cost (Return & Business class) on Swiss is CHF 469 so would actually be far cheaper than a Taxi both ways and even taxi there and train back. (Economy is only CHF 50 cheaper)
How come Taxi's are so expensive here? They seem expensive in most countries but here it is rdiculous.

Re: Taxi Fare Basel - Zurich Airport

I wouldn't book business class for the simple matter that on the ARJ100 that SWISS sends on this route there is no difference in the seat configuration, besides, if I remember, there is almost no service on that flight which is ridiculously short (you spend a lot more times checking in and waiting than flying!)

Totally agree with the suggestion to go the night before and get a hotel. My husband has stayed at the Allegra before and was really impressed with the cleanliness (we're picky that way ) and value for the money. Would highly second this recommendation for an airport hotel.

I know I've been on it a few times. You only just get clear of the trees and then come back down again. In-flight service is a small bar of sickly sweet chocolate for business class and economy alike. But then you are forgetting that I can cancel the return part if I have a C-Class ticket and get a refund. With economy, you don't get that choice.

Ah, I didn't know, useful advive!... see, the girl doesn't think about getting refund. She thinks about sleeping longer in a fluffy duvet and hitting the Duty Free shops at the airport before flying away

Re: Taxi Fare Basel - Zurich Airport

Anyone with a recent opinion on this same question?

My wife and small child will arrive ZRH and need to get to BSL with much luggage and me away on business...car service seems the best option. Any recommendations on a company? Prepay / booking is not a problem.

Thanks for your suggestions!

You can always use fly/rail for the luggage either by buying the labels (20 CHF each) or by checking it into the baggage storage in the airport bahnhof
http://mct.sbb.ch/mct/en/reisemarkt/...il-baggage.htm

or for checking it in at the airport train station

http://mct.sbb.ch/mct/en/reisemarkt/...ck-schweiz.htm

Otherwise expect to pay at least 300 CHFs and probably more.

Re: Taxi Fare Basel - Zurich Airport

great suggestion Rob...I had looked into this once before and could not do the Check In option with our preferred airline (CO), but didnt realize that you could still send the luggage direct to the station. Thanks, we might do this.
