I blocked mine with an email to the Canton Traffic Office in Aarau.

I reported a car driver to the police once - for driving down a footpath (between two schools) as a short-cut to the station.

Out of curiosity, later we checked the number plate later online and found out it was our closest neighbour in the street into which we had just recently moved .

We're talking now - just not to each other.

Best option is to call the Traffic Office of your Canton and inquire.

You don't need to live in Zurich to see where I live. Other strassenverkehrsamt offer the same/similar service and I posted a link that links to all the other Strassenverkehrsamt websites.

There's even an iPhone app now, with the added "utility" of people being able to follow a particularly nice car that is packed with luggage and see who's heading down Gotthard way... There have been suggestions to ban the app and I reckon that might be a good idea.

They have a form to request for a blocking your plate number but only for a good reason!
So what could be a good reason to get the request through?

Yes, but they can also use this information to warn you that you are parked incorrectly instead of towing you away directly. I've had a security officer pay me a personal visit at home to tell me to move my vehicle. It was creepy, but free! I'm going to remain listed.

According to this site, for BS you can request per email the ID of the owner of a car by giving the plate number.
