Moving canton/changing plates

I couldn't find an answer with the search so hoping this is not a dupe question. Basically I'm moving from BS to BL and need to get new BL plates. However I'm not sure in which order I need to do things, do I go to the BS offices first to give back my current plates, or the BL one first to get the new plates?

Cheers

P.S moving appartment/cantons is a major PITA

Re: Moving canton/changing plates

When we moved, we went to get the new plates first. I cant remember for certain, but they may have even taken our old plates and sent them back to the previous canton for us.

Make sure you have all the paperwork. I remember we had an issue with the proof of insurance and had to wait around while they confirmed our insurance was okay.

All in all the process went pretty smoothly for us.

Moving canton is exactly the same as moving country. You finalise all your paper work and make all your tax payments to one canton and then renew everysthing in next canton. Car plates, license, health insurance, tax, etc etc

PS You're right, it is a major Pain In The Ass !
