I am new to the forum having found your info on Google. I have recently bought a small laser type sailing boat for my kids. I bought it in France on ebay and the authorities are telling me I cannot register it in CH unless it has previously been registered in France or I have a eec conformity certificate no 9425. They were a bit short with me on the phone and I didn't get to ask what is the minimum size for registration. It is only 4.1m in length.
Any ideas at what length registration is compulsory or any ideas how I can solve my problem?

Registration will require the EEC conformity certificate which you should be able to obtain from the boat dealer or the manufacturer.

Not 100% clear yet, waiting for feedback from Zurichsee (and the rules for your lake may be different), but it looks like you wouldn't have to register if you stay within the regulated area which extends a hundred meters from the edge or shore. As it's a sailing boat I guess you want to cross the lake and go where you please in which case registration is necessary.

Contact the local Seepolizei again - best to go in and speak to a face for better service .

Did you find out whether a boat needs to be registered if it stays within 100m of shore, I am thinking about building a small dingy to row around in, if i had to register it, it would be a big hassle

You can register sailboat under the US flag. In that case you don't need EEC certificate. You can read all about on this address: www.en.isbcom.com
