Swiss Trains - interesting website

I encourage you all to have a look at Swisstrains (note I am not affiliated with it in any way, shape or form).

You can view the Google map of the region that interests you with train and Sbahn traffic superimposed.

Clicking on a particular station gives you info about trains through that station within the next half hour.

Note the train traffic is based on the "ideal" schedule and there's no real time feed on positions/delays (sofar).

I think it's pretty neatly done.

it's strangely relaxing to watch. Am I becoming a train spotter?!?

And nice that it's centered on the capital of the country when you load it

Actually, it knows your location, unless Emmen suddenly became the capital!

Oh my goodness, that's amazing. I like the psychedelic blinking effect on the Lausanne Metro line when all the trains are stopped at the same time.

Think the beta version will include engine numbers? Then I wouldn't need to carry a checkmarked list around in my wallet anymore.

Thanks, Mike.

You can also click on a train and click "Follow" - the map will then scroll accordingly. Pretty neat to do with the mountain trains

Oddly the tunnel fron Thalwil to Zurich seems to be counted as the overground...

Strangely hypnotic to be able to (almost) watch the train which is going to take me out of work chugging towards my station. Like it.

Pretty cool alright.

How great would it be to have something similar for the trams.. you'd be able to time leaving work/home to perfection.

Hi all, I am the programmer that it is in back of this application. About first page location is done based by IP, if your IP is CH-based it will center on the city where your ISP is, if not will center on Zurich

Also, if you want to force the start page for a specific station you can try
http://www.swisstrains.ch/cityName so

Hi LR - I knew this forum when I was planning my last trip on CH - which had 2 days on trains - http://gallery.webgis.ro/index.php?parent_id=90 - and now I am in a relocating process to Zurich and I was searching about insurances and came again on this website.

I've keyword after swisstrains and here I am.

It reminds me of "Railroad Tycoon" on my long-departed Amiga 100.
