Parking Permit for Moving Truck

Hi
Does anybody know where I go to organise a parking permit and the cones for blocking the space for a moving truck in Basel.
Do I go to any police station or do I have to go to the one in Claraplatz?
Also how far in advance do they need to know?
Thanks

Re: Parking Permit for Moving Truck

Here I found this.

Rough translation -
Parking Notices for 'Moving' - must be put iin place 48 hours before the moving time and are made available on payment of a deposit.
The Notices can be collected from any Police Post.

Re: Parking Permit for Moving Truck

I had to go to my local cop shop. I used to live in Spalenring (4055) and did visit the police station on Clarastrasse only to be redirected to a local station a few tram stops from my house at the time. Relatively straight forward... cost me CHF 60 I think and then just put them on the street (blue zone) 48 hours before.

It seems though that this nice parking system doesn't work in other cantons. I moved to Zurich and the local police didn't know what I was talking about and just said, park on the street with a notice in the windscreen! Oh how I miss Basel--people cycle on the pavement here!

Leaving Basel - Need to Reserve a Parking Space for Removal Lorry

Hi there,

I wonder if someone is able to help me. I am moving from Basel in a couple of weeks and have just booked the removers. They are coming over from the UK and have asked me to reserve the two white parking spaces in front of my building for their lorry.

I've seen them reserved when other people move out but have no idea who I should contact to come along and put the traffic cones out.

I live in Basel Stadt - in Gellert area.

I'd appreciate anyone's help!

Thanks

Naomi

Hey there,

You can get the traffic cones from your local police station - they'll ask you for the date and time frame you need them booked and you can pick them up 2 or 3 days before (you'll have to put them out yourself).

Can't remember if it had cost me anything but it can't have been much.

Good luck with the move,

Dani

I just returned mine yesterday and the cost is 30chf when you collect them and you receive 20chf back (deposit for returning of the cones)when you return them to the police station.
All very simple.

Re: Parking Permit for Moving Truck

Thank you for your answers, that's so helpful. Just one thing - I have no idea where my local police station is!

I'm in St.Alban - Gellert area, 4052. Could anyone point me to the closest police station please?

Thanks

Can anyone offer some information on the procedure for Zurich? It is a white (metered) zone in front of my building.

Thanks in advance.

Hmmm, this is a bit of pain TBH. I'm moving on the 8th but going to pick the keys this Friday (more than a week before the move), and then I need to come back to basel (4h return journey) to get this done? And what if the places are taken? I just wait till they're free?

Re: Parking Permit for Moving Truck

You go to the city police (Stadtpolizei, Police de Ville) about 3 to 5 days before you need the parking spaces reserved. The police will advise you how to reserve the spaces, every city has different methods.

It's not clear from this where you're moving from and to. Are you moving from Neuchatel to Basel or vice versa?

Do you need parking in both places?

Re: Parking Permit for Moving Truck

Moving from Neuchatel to Basel. Neuchatel parking space is sorted. It's the Basel one that I need to sort out when I go and get the keys on Friday. I'll go to the local police and see what I can do...

Re: Parking Permit for Moving Truck

Having just been through this, I thought I'd post a few tips.

1. Timing
Yes, you really can turn up 48 hrs before and just get cones.

2. Cost
You pay 30 CHF, although you get 20 CHF of that back when you return the cones.

3. Where to go
If you're moving to Klein-Basel, go to the police station at Clarastrasse; the correct door is the side-road the left of the station: http://goo.gl/maps/xNxFE

If you're moving to Gross-Basel, go to the police station on Spiegelgasse (near Les Trois Rois) here: http://goo.gl/maps/t2h3j. Apparently, there's also a bigger station up near Kannenfeld park that you can use, but I've not been there.

4. Placing the bollards
This in important: you need to 'police' them! I placed them on Thursday morning, blocking two spaced outside my new apartment, naively expecting the law-abiding Swiss to respect them. They didn't - when we arrived on Saturday morning, they'd been moved to a different location further up the road, and even these locations weren't clear. (In the event, there was space for the vans to park on the pavement nearly, saving me the hassle of calling the police to sort it out.)

As such, it's probably best to check on them a few times during the 48 hours they're in place, and maybe even got photographic proof of where you've left them. (?) It might also be worth checking with the police what to do in this situation, when you pick up the bollards.

Good luck!

Thanks. Were these bollards special in any way, or could I just use any old object to block the road without getting them from the police?

For Basel, they're specific ones, and have a sign on top of them indicating which day of the week they apply to (as you place them ~48hrs early, but they don't apply immediately).
