I was wondering if anyone knew how much it would cost to get a cheapest economy return rail ticket from Basel SBB to Frankfurt airport on 11 Dec returning 24 Dec?

The reason I ask this is that my wife and I are planning a holiday to India and the cheapest tickets are from Frankfurt to Delhi (552 EUR).

Furthermore, if it's cheaper to get a visa from UK as I have a British Passport and the Indian embassy in Swiss is charging 150 CHF per person for a visa.

i know the information above is very specific but I am often amazed how knowlegeable people are in this forum.

A Baden-Würtemburg Ticket from DB (available at Basel Bad Bhf) costs €28 and is valid for up to 5 adults on Regional trains in Germany. This would take you most of the way to Frankfurt Airport, where you would need some extension tickets.

It is only valid at certain times (after 9am weekdays and all day weekends). Ask at the Deutsche Bahn counter in Basel to check the details.

I'm seldom amazed by how people find it so difficult to find things for themselves.

If you're flying with Emirates to India, you should be entitled to a free Deutsche Bahn 'Rail & Fly' transfer i.e. a train ticket from anywhere in Germany to Frankfurt airport... and anywhere in Germany includes Basel Badischer Bahnhof

You are not automatically "entitled to", it is typically an option for very few Euros extra. Ask at your agency, it is often already included or just costs some 5 or 10 Euro more. Definitely the cheapest option.
