Got my tickets delivered to me free by snail mail from SBB in Brig.

On EuroCity trains, there is a -/+ 48 hour flexibility before or after the scheduled departure time originally booked to take another EuroCity train instead.

Let me know how your trip goes - the last three sets of visitors that we had from Italy via Milan all got bumped off their 'direct connecting' train and delayed 1 hour to the later SBB service...one group even had the process repeated within Switzerland at another intermediate stop where the train had 'problems'...so I'd be curious to know if it all goes smoothly...

Will do, although this would be my third trip in a year to Milan, always with reservations and twice never had experienced being bumped off.

Might be worth it to see the AC Milan vs Tottenham for the UEFA Champions League.

I did the trip last weekend. It was pretty good. They wanted a reservation fee so it was a little more than 25 each way.

We came back early Sunday because the weather in Milan was pretty miserable it was no problem changing the ticket on the train because the 11:30 was empty in Cars 6 & 7. The ticket office in Milano Centrale couldn't change the ticket but the SBB conductor at Domodossola handled it.

I came back through Domodossola / Brig with half a wagon to myself. Am going again, seeing that it costs CHF6 one way Chiasso -> Milano Centrale ( CHF12 return ) on a GA.

From Milano Centrale, there are great web promo fares on the Renfe's Tren Hotel to Barcelona or TGV / Artesia web promo fares to Paris Bercy. Come back to Milan for Aperitivo ( Da Claudio is a good place if one is into "buffet" seafood ) before going to CH.

We went last week and paid 60 CHF per person 2nd class, the train was pretty much empty so it was good. I have been to Milan about 6 times since I moved here in July 2009 and was never bumped into another train.
Husband and I are going again with the new offer (50 CHF each for a return trip) in April

we always miss these SBB Milan offers, but thanks to you Jsprt that we have our first trip booked

No I did not, but I got my tickets independently ( as I have a CH travel pass up to the border Chiasso ) and stayed elsewhere ( at a cheaper place as I am on a low budget preferring to eat out and spend the cash on other stuff such as shopping ).

I am quite sure what they stated is what they ought to have offered to any potential customer of SBB.

Absolutely 54 CHf was for single way and not for go and back

I did a test in December for an end Jan ticket - it came out to be CHF54, less if I stated a travel pass. Perhaps one needs to book earlier for a journey commencing within the 60 day period with the hope that there will be promotional seats ?
