We have been to Goa twice at Christmas, once as a couple and the second time with teenage daughters. Being in a Christian area the hotel had a christmas tree and santa claus, but outside the hotel normal life went on. I can thoroughly recommend it for a change and not too expensive.

Try Madeira. Especially during Christmastime, it's amazing and, as I recall, claims to have the largest number of lights in the world - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madeira

I loved Madeira. The food is excellent, the island is immaculate and it's just a really neat place to visit. (Also, some fun trivia - the airport has the shortest runway (or one of the shortest - recently extended on pylons) in the world)

Goa is quite expensive!!! around 6000 Chf each
Madeira is a good option.....but i think my boyfriend does not like Portugal.

I have done Egypt, Turkey and Morocco during Christmas. As we do not celebrate it was a nice way to get out. Turley is quite cheap and the air fare wont be expensive either and I believe there are some budget airlines, the weather will not be very nice though and it was very rainy but we enjoyed it a lot.

Go to Israel. It is a fantastic destination all year round, and the weather is always mild, even in December (except for the occasional rain at that time of the year, or, even more rare, the very occasional snow on the hills around Jerusalem or in the north of the country).

The other advantage is that you can pretty much do whatever you want regarding Christmas celebrations - or anything else, for that matter, as the country is as diverse in landscape as it gets: if you feel like celebrating, take a trip to Jerusalem or to cities in the north where there are sizeable Christian communities, such as Nazareth, Kfar Tavor, etc.

If you feel like skipping Christmas celebrations, party it up in Tel Aviv, where that whole period will be business as usual for the majority of the population, or take a trip down south to the desert and visit the Dead Sea (with maybe a quick day trip to Jordan) or go all the way down to Eilat (Red Sea).

PM me if you want more info/advice on destinations in Israel. Personally, my favorite is a few days in Tel Aviv, a quick visit to the hills and vineyards between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, and then a drive up north to the Golan Heights area.

Finally i will go to Tailand, Morocco is a good opticon (my parents come from there, so ive been there many times) but its very cold in xmas.
I will keep in mind tel aviv and egypt....would love to go.
