Who all are going for Oktoberfest this year ?

Done it several times, last time was the worst about 5 years ago.Never fail to be disgusted by the depths of depravity that you can only witness there. On arrival the odour of vomit and urine is overpowering. You need to bob and weave like Tony Haye to avoid the flying beer glasses.
I must be getting old but i dont think its funny to see Germans pissing where they sit, and the food is crap.
Anyway have fun!

Can only suggest that you stay out of the Hofbräu tent, which is clearly the "worst", but nothing like as bad as what GG makes it out to be.

I've been going every year for a decade and have never seen "Germans pissing where they sit" - Brits and Yanks acting like drunken school girls, yes, unlike most of the Germans, those over 25 at least, who know that the Wies'n is a celebration of Bavarian tradition and treat it with some respect.

The food can be great, if you know where to go, and the beer is, of course, the best in the world.

Went last year and had a grand time! We managed to get in a tent even though we didn't have tickets on a Saturday! Hadn't planned to go this year but if someone is offering to drive!!!

Correct-except for the disgusting part, which is mainly an Australian/Italian thing. Anyways, I recommend going to the Cannstatter Wasen in Stuttgart instead. Less tourists-more civilised.

i'm a bit scared to go back. last time, i lost all memory after 7pm and also lost my passport, wallet and hotel key.

yeah I think I'm going to skip again, last year had to deal with an attempted murder and a good 100+ stitches over 4 buddies :P

I'm going for the first time this year. Any suggestions about the beer tents?

If you're going on opening weekend, go very early---you'll proally have to line up a good few hours in advance to get a place to sit....just from my experience.

On the opening Saturday, the early birds are lining up around 6h and the tents are firmly shut by 9h.

And the first beer isn't poured until noon.

Bit far for me this time round

Oktoberfest was amazing!!! Went for the 1st time last year, met 30+ people from the Uk at our hotel.. Partied the whole weekend with them. Going again this year to the Paulaner Tent again, with the same friends we made last year. Same hotel, same tent, same friends.
We didn't experience any urine anywhere, or stinch or showers of beer flying around. Just lots of laughs and "prosting"... The music was great, and can't get enough of "Country Road" too. Guess we were just lucky I highly recommend at least trying it once! Everyone in my office is also going, but a week after I go. Must be a trendy thing to do. Anyone going, have a great time and be safe.

Im also going for the first time, got a litlle scared about the pissing drinking posts here...

Those pissing posts don't scare me. It's the trying to get into a beer tent! Lining up at 6am...ugh!

then go the second or third week

Actually, anytime other than Saturdays it is not so hard to get a place, unless it's raining, then all bets are off. If it's sunny then all the tents have outdoor seating which is often better than being inside.

So after reading so much about it, may be its worth going atleast once

Remember to enjoy the traditional games and rides before you drink and eat too much. I especially enjoyed the one where you go up standing on a conveyor belt and at the top they give you a mat to sit on and slide down a spiral helter-skelter. Did it in a Dirndl too.
