Has anyone used Hotelcard?

Groupon has a deal to get the Hotelcard for CHF30 instead of CHF95. It is supposed to give you 50% discount at 260 hotels in Switzerland. But their website - www.hotelcard.ch - doesn't seem to be working, and to me that's a bad sign!

So, has anyone got one? Or heard anything about them? Thanks.

[Edit] Site working now.

Re: Has anyone used Hotelcard?

I had the opportunity and I bought this super card. I wanted to stay in a hotel in Bern during summer. I checked 4 times that they have free room (and that they are offering this free room on the official website of the hotelcard).

After I purchased the card I did the reservation.
Within few hours I get an email that the hotel is really sorry but they are not accepting this card during high season!
And that I can use it for stay during February or so. Who would go for sightseeing to Bern in this time????

I wrote a message to the hotelcard office. I received an answer that they are not responsible for the data (free rooms) that the hotels are giving them and that are then on the official website. Wtf? SO they are providing a service and they are not taking responsibility for the displayed data? WTF?

SO I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU - DONT BUY THIS USELESS CARD EVEN FOR 1 CENT!!!!!!!!!!!

ITS A FRAUD!!!!

Re: Has anyone used Hotelcard?

I've recently ordered this card via groupon and when I tried to book a hotel I got the same problem as 'rudasvine'.

Nevertheless I still got 2 offers from other hotels where the card and the discount was valid. With some catches:
- Only the best/expensive rooms were available for discount.
- Breakfast and city tax was not included so they charged full price

So summing all the extras I came almost to the same price as the first hotel without discount, so I ended up not using the card.

All in all, I guess that by searching in booking sites on the web you can actually get better deals than with the card, so the card is not that great as initially it seems. If you can order it with groupon you might once use the card and get even with the price. For sure, not worth the full price of the card.

Re: Has anyone used Hotelcard?

Hi,
I have this Hotelcard, since few months already, and used it 3 times until now.
I had a discount from SBB that came along with my GA , 45 chf instead of 95chf ,soo I took the opportunity and bought it.
To be sincere I never had any problems with their site until now, that's quite strange...anyway, last time, for Christmas, I booked a room in a very nice hotel in Interlaken. The next day I received, like usual, the confirmation via e-mail that my reservation was confirmed, that I have to pay when I shall do my check-in,etc. The price of the room was 50% less than the normal one. The nice surprise was at the arrival, since there were many rooms empty, they changed our room with another one, biger, nicer for the same price.
Hope that I could help you.
If you need any other information don't hesitate to ask :-)

Re: Has anyone used Hotelcard?

We often use Freedreams - I think it is 85CHF for up to 3 nights for 2, but you have to have either lunch and dinner there. We choose very carefully, as those can be quite expensive. You get a catalogue with the conditions for each hotel and had a few excellent trips. But do look at the dates carefully, as some do not accept those vouchers/offers for certain peak dates.
