Salaries are higher in ZH than Delhi, so a clever business takes advantage of the fact people are less price sensitive.

I think OP was mentioning ZRH-DEL-ZRH and DEL-ZRH-DEL in the comparison. I could be wrong though.

Is it just me.....or has anybody else noticed that EF seems to have a high proportional of people who think that there is ANY relationship between the COST of production of a service or a good and the PRICE a company charges for it?

Where on earth did this strange idea come from?

Jeez....what it is today?

The plane from Delhi to Zurich will be the same plane with the same people no matter if they are returning to Zurich, or making the first leg from Delhi

Because Swiss people are clearly prepared to pay 60, so why would anybody charge 40?

You think there are many people saying "i'd love to fly to Delhi, but its too expensive at 60, so I'll fly to New York or Malaga instead?"

I dont think so

PS sorry for the multiquote fail

When I was in Delhi last year, I booked the trip out with Emirates, and my return trip with Aeroflot. Maybe single tickets with 2 different airlines work out cheaper for you, as it did for me ?

Also try expedia or fluege.de for better offers.

Doc.

Re: why is zurich-delhi return double than delhi-zurich return

Lufthansa have recently had a few sales where prices from Basel/Zurich, via Frankfurt, to Delhi were 500CHF. So, around 27,000Rp including all taxes.

So now the question is ...
Why is delhi-zurich-delhi return more than zurich-delhi-zurich return??? Must be because of the high salaries in Delhi.

Re: why is zurich-delhi return double than delhi-zurich return

It may work out cheaper to buy a single fare Zurich to Delhi, and then purchase the return fare in Delhi, and not use the Zurich to Delhi return part, once back in CH; (or better still sell the return leg to a failed asylum seeker).

Why? It was a retaliatory measure because Star said that Air India had not met the entry requirements to join. Personally I would much rather see Jet Airways join the Star Alliance. But anyway, the measures taken against Swiss and Austrian are just political. Nothing much to admire there, the energy would be better used to try and get Air India up to speed (probably close to "Mission Impossible"...)

Re: why is zurich-delhi return double than delhi-zurich return

Supply and demand.

Back when I was a poor grad student wanting to visit my (then) boyfriend in Germany, I noticed the Austin/Frankfurt ticket was $100s more than Frankfurt/Austin trip. I asked the airline worker (gasp - back in the days before buying online!) and they basically laughed at my naivety and talked about supply/demand and all sorts of other factors. Made me feel dumb, but then again, I was in engineering and not finance!

fully realize its not a simple relationship ..but the price-cost difference is the competition margin..but in Switzerland competing on price seems to be a complete no-no ?
anyways aside from the economics its a bit of frustration
