Hi,
As my wife will be coming out to Switzerland to meet me at Xmas, I was looking for somewhere for a trip for the 3 days (27/28/29 Dec.)... as I am
quite new here and near Zurich, I noticed that there is a train which goes through the mountains to Lugano (never been there) .... does anybody know if that would make a good 3 day trip ( train through mountains, 2 nights hotel, train back again) at this time of year (nice scenery etc.?) ...
The train ride through Alps is quite nice, especially the first time. Lugano itself is definitely worth a visit - we used to come here often from Zurich until we decided to finally move here.
Things to do in winter - visit Monte Bre, try out local grotto's for typical dishes. If you find it too quiet here, Como or Milan is less than an hour by train
I prefer it by motorcycle, and have done it at Chrismas by motorcycle , froze my ass off (but I needed to ride a bike up to put a sidecar on it, this in the days between Christmas and NewYears at the end of '91)
