Are there any insider tips on driving without passing through Gotthard tunnel on weekend???

I know there is a 'local' way, but has anyone use it during peak holiday seasons (like Easter)??

Go via the San Bernadino tunnel instead. It's a much more scenic route and the traffic is lighter. I think google maps makes it half an hour longer, but in reality, because of the traffic, it's quicker.

At easter, it's either the Gotthard tunnel, the San Bernardino tunnel, or the Lucomagno pass (either via Chur or Andermatt), as all the other passes will be closed.

Do any of you have experience driving through the other tunnels during peak seasons?

Am thinking about the nightmare now driving to Ticino over Easter next year! Would prefer to take a train but without a car, we are not so mobile....

SBB should invent a car-train for this route!

That's what they had BEFORE they made the Gotthard tunnel.
