| | | What's your favorite Swiss corner?
Hi all, I am always looking for new ideas of places to visit in Switzerland, even as day trips. I have perused this forum and keep it as reference for ideas, but I was wondering what "y'all's favorite corner of Switzerland" is. It could be a little village (my favorite), a mountain spot (OH's favorite), a restaurant, a winery, an absinthe production site, a lakeside cafe, whatever...
What's the place in Switzerland that tickles your heart? Mine are Gimmelwald (pic on the left) and Appenzell (pic on the right).

Firstly I have say I think this thread is a great idea and I hope to get some ideas for future trips myself!
One of my favourite places is the Türlersee, mostly for sentimental reasons but it is a nice, easy, not too long stroll for a Sunday afternoon.
Was briefly is Adelboden and thought it an absolutely stunning place, well worth a visit!
Unfortunately I don't have any pictures, sorry.

The summit of le Moléson in canton Fribourg. From where you can see the lakes of Geneva, Neuchatel and Morat; a fantastic view of the the Fribourg pré-alpes and on a ggod day, Mont Blanc in the distance.
Oh and this place too... | | The following 2 users would like to thank PaddyG for this useful post:

When you are in Bern, walk or take the number 10 bus up to the Rosen Garten. Walk through the beautiful garden and view the old city of Bern below you. The café / restaurant is good too, http://www.google.ch/search?tbm=isch...147l4.5.1l10l0 | | The following 2 users would like to thank Sbrinz for this useful post:

As the title says 'corner' I thought it was about the far-reaching extremities of CH. As such, I would suggest the Poschiavo valley, it is indeed in the far east extremity of CH, and is quite unique. Very different from your typcial tourist places of Berner oberland and the like. http://www.valposchiavo.ch/ | | The following 3 users would like to thank runningdeer for this useful post:

The corner where my bed lies...
When I venture outside that corner, this one is pretty amazing too: http://www.kloster-einsiedeln.ch/
When I was in a pretty bad state 2 years ago, I got my peace inside the church. It's a wonderful place, even for non-catholics.

I really like Romainmotier, a tiny medieval town in Vaud with a famous Romanesque church and the remains of the first Swiss monastary from the 5th/6th century. There`s a very cute cafe next to it in the former house of the abbot (great cakes!)
You can take a beautiful stroll from Romainmotier next to a small creek to Croy. If you have a little more time on your hands continue along the Nozon to the Cascade du Dard and Tine de Conflens.

Arosa is the great. Been going skiing there for 28 years. It was only last year that i went for the first time in the summer as its only 1.5 hours drive from Zug. I highly recommend it!!
If you dont drive i would also recommend taking the train from Chur up the mountains to Arosa........its beautiful.
cheers

Kind of love the Churfirsten on the SG/GR border. One of our Grumpy bretheren here gets this view every morning (albeit about 6'000 feet lower).

| | | Re: What's your favorite Swiss corner? | Quote: | | | | | I'm considering a day trip to Appenzell this weekend - any things you particularly like doing there? | | | | | I like to walk around with my nose up in the air all the time, taking many, many pictures of the wonderful buildings from different angles (hobby #1) and hopefully not falling over and/or bumping into people.
Then I usually pop in every single store selling cheese, liquors, and other goodies (hobby #2) and chat with the workers in a combination of my dreadful German and moving my hands around a lot, listening (and focusing really hard to understand) to all the explanations about cheeses. I usually buy 2-3 and taste 15 or so...
Since by now I am feeling quite tired and a bit sick with all the cheese I ate, I think about having a tea somewhere, but as I walk around, I see these guys and can't resist, I go in, chat with the workers there, and, with the excuse of finding out about the sweets to take some ideas back to my dad (who is a pastry chef), sample ALL their samples: biber, berewegge, meringues, cookies, you name it, I eat it (hobby #3). As with the cheese, I buy 2-3 and taste like 10...
Then, by now rolling down the street instead of walking, I find a quiet spot and sit on a bench by the river, and write a lot (hobby #4). If I am with the OH, we whisper fluffy stuff to each other's ear (hobby #5). At some point, I realize I still want that tea, and think of heading to the confiserie by the river, but instead I am reminded that we are in Appenzell, after all, and settle on a beer or two!
One time that I found it open, I have also gone inside the St. Mauritius church for some peaceful meditation and discussion with the "above entities" (hobby #6). I haven't visited the museum as of yet, perhaps I will next time I go back.
Have fun in this special, amazing little town!

But I'm still 25 km from the GR border. Granted, compared to Canada, that's nothing, but hey Mate, we are in Switzerland.
P.S.: Thanks, very nice picture!

Stein Am Rhine, Appenzell, Schaufhausen, St Gallen and Santis as a round trip is a brillant intro to take people. Take visitors to Santis and if they have never seen a mountain the look on their face when you turn the car up the last climb is worth seeing.
Mt Titlis as a ski area, Jungfrau

If you're romantic this is my favourite.
Also a walk along the lake from Horgen to Halbinsel Au. Takes 1 hour.
Fabulous
