Hi everyone,

My mum will be coming to visit 24 - 27th of December and I was just wondering if anyone knew of anything particularly christmassy that I ought to take her to in Zurich.

Are there any kind of Christmas parades or anything worth visiting?
For example are there still any Christmas markets around on the 24th?
When do the Christmas lights get turned on and where?

Ideally we would like to stay in Zurich, but we could theoretically take a train to other nearby places to, such as to the hills for a boxing day hike (any suggestions where?).

Any suggestions for things to do would be very welcome!

I don't mean to hijack this thread but...I am also looking for things to do on 24th-27th December. My parents (and 2 brothers) are coming to visit us plus OH's mother is visiting at the same time. (Our respective parents have never met before...)

Any suggestions would be most welcome. I realise most places would be closed during those dates but the thought of having everyone stuck in our little flat during the day is most worrying to me.

Can't help with events in town, but I would take them - if they're mobile and coming with walking boots and warm clothes - to Zermatt. I haven't been at Xmas, but it's pretty anyway and I would guess it'll be snowy and festive - and open, being a ski resort. Ride up the cablecar to see the Matterhorn, and a lovely train ride on the way. Other picturesque alpine towns closer to you may be available, I have limited experience

I think I will definitely consider taking a train to a picturesque alpine village on Boxing day, just need to consider where. Zermatt would be really nice, but I'm sure there are places closer to Zurich, perhaps within an hour or so of traveling by train?
