Uster Märt - Uster Market ( Nov 24, 25 )

Hi all,

Just wanted to inform you about the Uster Märt which is the following Thursday & Friday, 24th & 25th November, in Uster of course.

It's a really big market with around 500 stalls. I go from stall to stall eating and drinking. They've got lots of stalls selling stuff as well as Chinese, Thai, Eastern European, Sri Lankan, Indian, Italian, BBQ & Swiss food stalls. There's also a local brewery stall selling tasty beers, as well as many serving mulled wine & punch. And not to forget, excellent Chnoblibrot (Garlic bread). There are also lots of activities (rides & games) for the little ones.

I'm not related to the event in any way, but as I live in Uster, am a big foodie and boozer , and do enjoy the event, I thought I'd let yol know. There'll be lots of people there and some of the booze stalls stay open till the wee hours... (3-4am)

Uster is easily accessible (S5/S15/S9/S14) from HB and Stadelhofen. 11 minutes from Stadelhofen and 15 mins from HB. As soon as you exit the station, you'll see and hear it. Easy.

I recommend it.

(sorry it's in Deutsch.)

p.s. If any one wants some more info, feel free to PM me.

Thanks for posting this! We are new permanent transplants to Switzerland (from America) and this is our first Thanksgiving away from home. We've decided this looks like more fun than cooking/eating a turkey without our family and will be there on Thursday.

I'm a big fan of thanksgiving dinners but I agree that without family, it's just not the same.

There'll be lots of stalls serving lots of goodies. I'm sure you'll have a good time. There'll be a lot of people but it's fun walking around Uster going from stall to stall trying foods. And if you get tired, just stop by a restaurant and have a seat!

I'll be going both nights but am looking forward more to Friday night, as I don't need to work Saturday of course and can enjoy a good number of pints!

Haven't ventured into Uster today. Not taken the car But wanted to know if it is open during the day or only evenings?

Didn't want to waste time on the train to find its not open. Also toooooooo cold to be standing outside waiting for the market to open.

Now that we're nearer by it will be our local too - we used to know Ben who runs it from the outback so mr nickers often pops in there.

Off to the Markt in a bit. I'll be the one dragging the OH round every store and probably taking photos to make my family jealous :-p

Me neither I lived in Uster for quite a few years, but moved some months ago. Will be going to the market tomorrow to meet up with some 'old' friends.

By the way, the market is also open during the day! Lots of families and pensioners then, at night it gets a bit crazy

Ah yes, I know Ben. Cool guy. Vanessa is really cool and also works behind the bar. She doesn't speak much English though. René the manager's alright too.

I wish Jose was still there. He was a South African bloke who was great behind the bar doing flicks and tricks. He's now at kafi für dich.

I live around 300 metres from Red Ochre .

Any way, we should make it a point to meet up for a few pints at the Red one evening. It's a decent bar but I do miss Guiness and the English premier league footie. Apart from that, I like it, I've made quite a few friends there.

I was at the market yesterday at 16:30 and it was already in full swing. Tonight I'll be going all out.

Make sure you swing by Zum Hut, the bar right opposite the gemeinde/police because their stall is serving different stuff like hot toddys and Irish coffees as well as grilled rabbit in a bun, etc...

Sorry I can't meet up tonight because I'm with the wife and a few others...

I forgot to add, towards the end of the night we'll end up at the Zeughaus bar in Uster. It's a cool bar and they often have DJs on wekeends. Anissa, lovely Ethiopian lady, works behind the bar and is a sweetheart.
