Get up early and it can be made into a day-trip.

Zurich has virtually no snow worth sledging most of the year.

For good sledging - the closest is Kerenzerberg (IMHO).

Amden also has a pretty good run.

Preda is superb - especially when combined with some Fondue - and the night sledging!

If you want to try something different (that is close to Zurich) have a look at heidiland.ch for some ideas - snowshoeing with huskies - stopping for Fondue??

I don't think there's much cricket being played this time of year in Zurich.

Melchsee Frutt claims to have the longest in Central Switzerland, don't know about that, but it is looooong, and great fun, should be easily doable for a day trip from Zurich.

BTW, stick to the sledging runs, some guy died last season when they decided to take the sledge down a piste.

Uetliberg is supposed to be quite fun...

Where exactly is the start point of the sledge run in Uetliberg? And do they rent sledges?

Hi ClaudiaHC - they do rent sledges. The sledge run is near the Uetliberg station, but the people in the restaurant should be able to direct you if you can't find it. It's best to call in advance to see if the route is open though.

Gamplüüt is probably still close enough for a day trip...

Melchsee Frutt is definitely my favourite day-trip-from-Zurich place to sledge. It's fab!

You may want to try the Pilatus, if you have access to a car! It is close to Luzern. The advantage is the slope itself, you take a cable car dedicated to this activity (i.e. no skiers) and enjoy a long ride, with several options (from steep slope to smooth). Just check the snow before, but I went with some french friends last year and we really enjoyed it!

we did a day trip out to Lauterbrunnen (sp?) last year and it was brilliant Rented sledge in town and took a cogwheel train up to a really long sledge run somewhere - can't recall the name of the town off hand ...
