| Is it mandatory to show credit card for verification when boarding easyjet? | |

It's not mandatory. I do not believe it was ever standard procedure for them to ask to see your card at check in.
It did used to be possible to present your credit card as a substitute at check in if you had lost/forgotten your booking reference.
AFAICT, EasyJet really, really, really want you to print your own boarding pass before you go to the airport.

| I would want to book a ticket for my friend... not sure if the traveller and the card holder must be the same person. | |

I've booked tickets for family before. You will need all their passport details to enter so you can get the boarding passes. These come as PDF so you can email them their boarding pass and they can print it themselves.
Make sure to agree with them beforehand whether they are travelling with hand luggage only or will want to check baggage. Otherwise the baggage charges are what can rightly be called punitive.
