Best views in winter

Hello!
I recently moved to Montreux and this is my first winter in Switzerland. My girlfriend is visiting next week and I would like to take her somewhere special for the day, where we can have a nice view of the Swiss landscape. I have a car so we could go there by car/train/both.
I have read there are many nice places to go to: Jungfrau, Rigi, Schiltorn, Eggishorn... but as I haven't had the chance to go yet I don't know which one to choose! Also, as it is the winter season already and the ski season has started I don't know if this affects these more touristy trips.
I want it to be really special, could you recommend which is the best place to visit and what you would recommend?
Thanks a lot!!

Re: Best views in winter

Arrived from where?
You sound like an Aussie.

Can't help you with anywhere specific, as I am new to Switzerland, but generally there are so many beautiful places in Swiss, I am sure you could drive and discove something not too far.
There must be a few old hands on here that can offer something more specific.

Good luck.

FYI, I might go to Villars tomorrow for the 1st time, but am unsure what it is like if snowing which is predicted.

From Vevey, there is no need to go as far as the places you've mentioned. Difficult to advise without knowing what your girlfriend enjoys- more rural, spas or 'posh'. You could go to Gruyères medieval village and then on to Gstaad. Or perhaps to one of the spa resorts like Ovronnaz (very near to Montreux) or Leukerbad/Loèche further down the Rhone Valley. For somewhere more oldie Heidi traditonal, head for Evolène and Les Haudères. A bit further and go to Zermatt, doing the last part of the journey by train.

What sort of car and tyres have you got btw? If you do not have snow tyres, go by car along the valley floor then park and take the bus or train up to resorts.

I love Evolène, go there every year for a week. However it does not have really spectacular scenery (great scenery, but not spectacular).

Zermatt, of course, is Zermatt, with the Matterhorn and a crowd of other 4K peaks. It is very rich touristy (more jewelers than outdoor stores in town), and is a total contrast to Evolène, which made me smile at their juxtaposition in Odile's post

For better views than Evolène in a less touristy environment than Zermatt I would suggest Zinal, at the foot of the Imperial Crown.

Re: Best views in winter

Many thanks for your replies and suggestions everyone! I come from Portugal and my girlfriend is living in London so I would like to take her on a more rural/heidilike trip as she enjoys the nature a lot and misses it in London.
She came once in Autumn and we visited the Leman area, including Gruyeres and the vineyards, and she loved it. Now I wanted to go somewhere special and different and was thinking of the Alps and to go somewhere where we can enjoy the views of the swiss panorama.
I have seen that the forecast for this weekend is not good L so I believe that I will need to focus more on the weather than on the place… I have heard that sometimes, even if it is cloudy, on the top of the mountains it is good weather and you can still enjoy a nice view. Where can I find out about this to choose the destination?
PS- I just got my winter tyres so should be ok
