Hi, I'm 20 and on a year placement from my university, working in Basel. On the weekends my hostel is quite quiet and I feel quite lonely / sad.

I just wanted to ask two qyestions, to help me plan my last 7 months here in basel.

1. Where would you recommend I visit for a day trip on the weekends, either by train or Basel tram/bus.

2. Where would you recommend to see around Basel, if I have only a few hours etc. Anywhere thats accessible by tram or bus. Or local train.

The butterfly exhibition near Bern
The Zoo
Augustus Rauricus (4 stops on the S1 from the SBB)
Shloss Birsek at Arlesheim
An afternoon at Sole Uno Park Resort in Rheinfelden
A trip up the river on the river bus
Colmar (France)
Friburg (Germany)
A visit to your MEP in Strasbourg in return for a tour, about an hour by TGV

Then there is cycling and Hiking.
