zermatt dining

hello all,

My wife and I are going to be spending this weekend , -- Thursday to Sunday -- in Zermatt. We plan on being basically lazy, taking in the sites and doing as much walking as the weather (??) will allow but can anyone recommend any restaurants, or for that matter recommend any to stay away from?

thanks
g

p.s. we will be staying at the Hotel Romantic Julen.. has anyone been there?

Re: zermatt dining

There's a super restaurant serving fusion food on the street going uphill from the Kirchbrücke towards the center.

this is a good list of the restaurants there:

I can personally recommend Restaurant Heimberg for it's traditional Swiss mountain food But on second glance I realise they are not open until November...........

My wife and I spent a few days there on our honeymoon. It was a really nice hotel with big, comfortable rooms (we had a top floor one). The breakfasts were great and the underground two floor spa and swimming pool complex was awesome after a day spent hiking. We are definitely planning to go back there.

(we didn't just go hiking on our honeymoon - we went to the transport museum in Luzern as well).

Re: zermatt dining

We've been to Grampi's a few times and have consistently been disappointed. It's a tourist trap. Don't go there.

Nelly's is a new place that we found. It's got satays and steaks and a frightening selection of whiskies... It's also got a tank full of piranhas.

Nordwand is an English-style bar, if you fancy a pint at some stage.

Zermatt is also a great place for that annual fondue fix. There's lots of options for this. Just follow your nose, literally...
