Romantic weekend suggestions

Hello

First wedding anniversary is rapidly approaching. Have you any suggestions for a romantic weekend away, under 500chf within 2 hrs train ride of Zurich?

I'd be happy lounging in a spa all day, but husband gets bored quickly/would rather be on his mountain bike, so need some element of danger to keep him entertained.

Thanks.

Re: Romantic weekend suggestions

We just had a smashing long weekend with friends at the Walensee resort, about 30-40 mins from Zürich on the train, I think. Very reasonably priced and some great MTBing in the area, for all grades, amongst other things. Beautiful scenery.

Re: Romantic weekend suggestions

also more than 2 hrs. ( more like three ) but mrs. and I just had a weekend at Leukerbad ... unlike some other spas we've been this really is designed for couples ( kids are allowed but not so many as other places it seems ) and there is great walking, MTB trails around.

Re: Romantic weekend suggestions

Go to the black forest.

I have to admit I do not know how to get there by public transport.

But in Todtnau there ie a most excellent Rodelbahn. See http://youtu.be/bmGA096IoMs. Plus running beside is a downhill mountain bike trail through the forest. For both you take the chairlift up and then you have a blast coming down as fast as you dare to.

Some nice places in Arosa (2 1/2 hours by train) - beautiful place and a nice excuse to experience the great fourth language of Switzerland and the excellent cuisine of Graubunden

Hi, have you been to the Rhine Falls (Rheinfalls)

It appears to be within 1hr commute from Zurich by train.

Sorry do not know about the hotels there, as went on a day trip & only did 2 of the boat trips as was a bit late getting there.

Would love to see it both night & day

Re: Romantic weekend suggestions

Ok what i will suggest is way too far. Its 3 hours by car or 4 by public transport from Zurich. Im thinking about the royal hotel in evian in france. Nice spa for you and hubby can do all sorts of things close by (golf and horse riding are two of the things we did)

I went there twice already (thank you deals of 50% off!) and its a very romantic setting

But since you are in Zurich is not worth going there just for a night

Re: Romantic weekend suggestions

I was planning on spending a day in Arosa with my husband. The problem is I am pregnant. Are there any other romantic activities there that are not biking....etc..?

Re: Romantic weekend suggestions

We recently went to gruyeres and stayed here:
http://www.gruyeres-hotels.ch/English/default_GB.htm

The view was absolutely gorgeous. You can go to the chocolate factory nearby, and the cheese factory if you wish, and the public transport connections are not bad.

The hotel is right next to the castle, with a small selection of restaurants, courtyard, museum and the Aliens bar and museum, a tibetan museum too...

Hi Swisspea,
Love your idea - but can you tell me if those places are open on weekends ? I started looking but could not find a definite answer

I am also looking for a romantic weekend idea, and the comments I see here are as usual very helpful. Thank you all !

JD
