Getting To Annecy From Geneva

I'm going to be in Geneva for an Obama fundraiser for Americans Abroad in late August and have heard that Annecy France is amazing and worth stopping by while I'm there.

I've been trying to find info about train schedules and it looks like it's several hours to get a 25 miles if I go that way.

I don't think I'll have a car. Anybody know if there's any decent public transport options (or private shuttles that aren't as expensive as a taxi) between the two citites?

Thanks so much!

Re: Getting To Annecy From Geneva

Annecy is indeed lovely - but not easily accessible without a car.
There are many lovely places that are though - like Yvoire on the French side of the Lake which you can get to by boat - or Montreux, easily accessible by train.

Edit: just checked on the Swiss train website www.sbb.ch (you can click on English version). It seems that you can get there in 1.50 mins BY BUS rather than by train. Go on the website, type a date and departure time, and they will give you all the options.

Or perhaps ask if someone on EF would like to join you, and offer to pay for petrol and lunch. You never know.

See my edited post above, which crossed with jrspet's! The great thing with the sbb route planner is that it totally integrates both train and bus travel.

Yvoire is unique ... if you have to choose one place that should almost certainly be it.

Re: Getting To Annecy From Geneva

Yvoire is a very different place than Annecy....

Annecy is like a small pretty town with canals etc while Yvoire is a beautiful picturesque village with lots of arts and handicrafts...

Would suggest visit Nyon (25 mins away from Geneva) and take the ferry across to Yvoire... It's a gorgeous ride on a ferry

Let me know if you need help... (P.s I might be going to Annecy. PM me your dates and I can coordinate if you need a ride !!)

OH my God, EF has done it again, for me!!
read the posts above, and Yvoire was absolutely fantastic!!
Mind blowing!!!
5 minutes before approaching Yvoire, is a fantastic part of the (very small)beach too!!(see awesome photos)Lots of kite-surfing going on!!
Loved it.
The town is really small cute too.

Thanks again, EF, and thanks to the people above for recommending it!!

Annecy was fine too(we were going there anyway)

Re: Getting To Annecy From Geneva

I'm doing the trip every morning and evening, to and from work, so if someone needs a lift, PM me and we'll see if we can organize something. Airport is a convenient pick-up/drop off point for me.

Wikipedia says -
It is well known for its medieval buildings and beautiful flower decoration during the summer season. It is also one of the "most beautiful villages of France".
