A place to go swimming

Im looking for a good place to go swimming in the mountains. Either a lake or river. Any ideas?

Re: A place to go swimming

Maybe a bit far from you, but there is a natural swimming pool, 75m, in the rocks near Les Marécottes, near Martigny Valais.

www.zoo-alpin.ch

As anybody ever been there - it looks amazing.

Be wary of plunging into Alpine lakes; they are often very cold and sadly each year there's a Bad News Story. Ask locals ahead of your hike.

Alpine lakes near Zürich where you could go for a swim are Walensee, Wägitalersee and Klöntalersee.

Re: A place to go swimming

I've been swimming lots in Turlersee so far this year. It's not mountains, but it's the other side of the Albis, quiet (in the mornings) and beautiful. And 20 mins from Zürich.

Re: A place to go swimming

I'd highly recommend Klöntalersee, it's spectacular. Walensee, while beautiful sitting under the Churfirsten is just a huge lake - if you're looking for something a bit more secluded but just as beautiful - it's Klöntal.

Re: A place to go swimming

The Huttnersee, up from Richterswil is very popular with bathers. It's not a big lake and not too high up (whilst still managing to be in nice countryside/alpine foothills) so it warms a bit better than some of the higher lakes.

EDIT: Just saw the thread was from more than a week ago. Hope the OP found what he/she was looking for.

Re: A place to go swimming

If you're looking for a nice place to swim in the moutains in the Ost-Schweiz area, not too far away from Chur in Laax-Flims is the Caumasee. We've been there very often during the summer time:

Re: A place to go swimming

I've swum in Oeschinensee (and skied on it in winter!). You are right; it is decidedly chilly, very beautiful but very chilly!

Have a flask of coffee on stand-by for when you come out.

Re: A place to go swimming

We went to Verzasca Valley close to Locarno. The water was very cold but it 's very nice. I saw people jumping from the double-arched bridge. Seemed fun. You can check this out.
