Buying the ALSA+ 24 in Basel

Does anyone know if it's possible to buy the 24 hour train ticket for Alsace (called ALSA+ 24) in Basel?

I've worked out (I think!) that it's not valid on trains from Basel SBB (even the TER train) but it does cover the Distribus from Schifflaende.

It seems good value at 33€ and will let me hit the Christmas markets in Mulhouse (no, really), Colmar and Strasbourg.

You can buy it in St Louis as the first station in France ( Distribus )

Re: Buying the ALSA+ 24 in Basel

The ticket is valid to Basel SBB. Just need to check whether it's possible to buy it there too. I guess it depends whether the sole SNCF machine there sells it. I believe France (well, SNCF) has wanted to get rid of the bit of station it owns in Basel; it must cost them a lot to keep it running.

Even the TGV to Paris doesn't use it (it goes to the Swiss platforms). Only the TER to St Louis upwards uses it now.

You could spend EUR1.30 or so from the driver and take that Distribus from Basel Schifflände to St. Louis gare and buy the 24 hour ticket.

Sure. Or I could just buy it from Basel SBB and take the train directly from there to where I want to go. If possible.

It depends. There are "alternatives" like the BW Länder ticket, RegioElsassTicket and the Alsace Reflex card like what Faltrad does.

Some tickets provide deals for groups.

Basel SBB- French Ticket Counter?

Day trip in Strasbourg Sun 03.04 11am onwards

The bus might also be a viable option for the group:

Good news!

It's possible to buy the ALSA+ 24 hour ticket from Basel SBB station. Christmas markets here I come! Anyone else interested? Meet at SBB Thursday (yeah, I know some of you suckers have to work) 9am.

Created an event
Alsace Christmas Market Crawl

Thought to revive this thread.

So it is possible to buy the ALSA +24 ticket from Basel SBB train station. Is it the best bet for a day trip to Colmar?

Re: Buying the ALSA+ 24 in Basel

Yes, it can be purchased from the French ticket machine at the SBB, as Adrian said, and I have used a credit card there successfully as well.

Its a great deal on the weekend when an entire family can travel for little more than price of one.

On weekdays, its worth it more when doing multiple-leg trips, such as Basel-Colmar-Route du Vin by bus 106. A direct day trip to Colmar you wont benefit much over single ticket.

You can also economize by buying only for the zone you need, Haut-Rhin, Bas-Rhin, which are cheaper than the entire Alsace ticket.
