Re: (info) Double SBB Day passes from Migros

Hi all, how do these work ? By that I mean after purchasing one can I just hop on to any train or do I need to go to the SBB ticket office and then purchase a ticket showing them this pass ?

Thanks

You just get them from Migros. On the day you wish to travel, you validate it in one of those machines that date stamp it near or on the platform. It's then valid for the rest of that day.

Re: (info) Double SBB Day passes from Migros

I've bought some tickets from Migros and used two of them. It's really valuable. Having said that, does anyone know if it could be used for the trip from Geneva to Milano of Italy since there is a SBB no-change train travelling between these two cities? vince

The Duo Tageskarte offer is back in Migros. Tickets to be used before 31st March 2009.
I had to search the net for a while to get to the official offer from Migros (there might be the confusion from the dates of the 2008 offer) - here the details:
http://www.migros.ch/DE/UEBER_DIE_MI...spx?NewsID=397

* Can be bought until Jan 26th
* Valid if at least 1 of the travelers has 1/2Tax (so best to be used with a 2nd person not having 1/2Tax)
* Valid through March 31st
* Valid Mon-Fri from 9am onwards; all day on weekends

Re: (info) Double SBB Day passes from Migros

These passes look like very good value. In a related question - I have a half fare card, I was just checking the SBB website and it says that 1 day travelpasses can be given as gifts:

http://mct.sbb.ch/mct/en/reisemarkt/...ageskarten.htm

Does this mean that when people like parents come to visit I can buy myself a half fare ticket (as normal) and buy one of these one day passes for each of them?

Potentially this would save a lot of money as Zurich - Luzern for example is pretty much the same price (if not more) as a day card.

Re: (info) Double SBB Day passes from Migros

They seem to have sold out of the offer - none in Zurich, none in Bern at any rate. And I need two of them for friends who are visiting! If anyone has any spare, or knows where they are still available, let me know!!!!

For future reference, I'd also like to know about its validity on the Milan route and also about those day passes as gift thing.

I hope someone posts!

2nd sentence from top on the given page:
"To be able to benefit from a 1-day travelpass, you need to be in possession of a Half-Fare travelcard."

So I'm pretty sure it would only work for you, but not for your parent (ask at the counter, as I'm only interpreting the text on the website without experience on my own).

Anyway, an alternative would be this (DE/IT/FR only), the Day-Pass from your Gemeinde where you live... and to be honest, they don't state anything with 1/2 fare pass or something like this; but it would be worth asking for details on that.

Re: (info) Double SBB Day passes from Migros

I've heard from a friend using the Gemainde day-card without having 1/2 Fare Abo.

However, I have a question - can it be used by people residing in bigger cities, since they don't seem to be on the list? Are there any residence requirements to be able to buy such cards (meaning - need to be a resident in the relevant locality)?

As far as I know, yes - at least for buying them; I don't think it's the same for using them because you can usually buy 2 or even more at once; so don't know if they really are able to check at the SBB if you are resident of that dedicated town you bought the tickets. Didn't know that bigger cities aren't on the list (have never been concerned with that ). However, maybe you know somebody living in a smaller town that's offering that service.

Also found tageskarte-gemeinde.ch where a lot of towns are listed for reserving/buying the day pass online... however, not all offering that service are on the list yet.

... and would be great if someone who really used that service would contribute with facts, not just guesses.

Re: (info) Double SBB Day passes from Migros

If anybody was able to get a duo tageskarte and finds they won't be able to use it - I'm interested! The 26th came quicker than I thought and wasn't able to get any tickets this year

Re: (info) Double SBB Day passes from Migros

I couldn't get as many of these as I wanted either. I emailed Migros before the closing date to ask if they could let me know where there may be some available and they wrote to me after the closing date to say that the numbers available are actually limited by the SBB.

I also enquired at the SBB about whether a companion traveller can use a 54CHF day card as well if you buy it for them with your half tax (re: earlier posting), but was told that both you and your friend would have to have a half-tax card if you each wanted to travel on a 54CHF ticket.

Back to the drawing board...

The office at the lake in Geneva offers residents of GVA the day pass for just chf 30 vs the Zurich offers it at chf 42

No, the day pass is valid only to go uptil Grindelwald, after that you must buy the mountain ticket.

Re: (info) Double SBB Day passes from Migros

Does anyone know which Migros stores you can buy these at? And do you just ask at the cash desk? Apologies for my ignorance, if the answer is obvious!

Thanks!!
