Hi Any suggestions for a weekend break?
We currently live in Zurich and plan to drive somewhere Sat morning and return on sun evening.
Looking to do the trip on the cheap and generally like to go exploring cities or natural beauty spots such as waterfalls, mountains etc. Though also partial to a bit of relaxation such as a hot spring bath etc.

Also interested in picking up some cheap shopping deals (need lots of things for the imminent baby arrival) so maybe somewhere in france???

Plan is to drive as will be taking the dog.


Any suggestions/recommendations much appreciated.

Arosa is wonderful.

It may be a bit close for you but Luzern is a great choice to get away for an evening.


If you want to get out of Switzerland

• Strasbourg (France)
• Munich (Germany)
• Neuschwanstein castle (Germany)
  

Strasbourg is beautiful and 1.5 hours from basel by car, but not necessarily on the cheap side. Cheaper than Zürich definately though.

Konstanz is reachable in no more than an hour and is a really nice place too. You've got the huge lake of Konstanz, (possible evening dinner boat trip or good long dog walking!) very reasonable good quality restaurants (Large steaks for equivalent of 20 francs, imagine that!!) and super cheap shopping with the opportunity of claiming tax back on certain things when you cross the border back into Switzerland (check other threads for the ins and outs, do's and dont's of tax back etc) There is also at least one wellness spa within a 15 min drive of the city.

Leukerbad in Valais is a nice weekend retreat with all the pampering you could require.

Colmar, France....smaller than Strausburg and closer.

Thanks very much for the suggestions. We ended up going to Konstanz where we walked our legs off, had no probs getting the dogs through border control (took their pet passports). Lots of nice places to walk and very dog friendly in the shops.
