Re: How is Museum of transport in Lucerne?

Anyone travelling there should aim to arrive before 10.00 opening time as the carparks fill up quick and lines get long pretty fast. At 9.55 be at the gate and make a beeline to the aircraft section where you can find and fly a flight simulator for 10 minutes for free, it looks cool but with 5 people ahead of us (at 10.05!!) I did not want to wait. There is a playground across the road on the lake so a good place to cool down and chillout if you are up for a second round!! You can also take a picnic inside or get food at the reasturant.

Re: How is Museum of transport in Lucerne?

We're thinking about going today...with a 5-, 3-, and 1 year old. We can't get there sooner than noon though.

There's that experienced part of me that thinks there's not much of anything that could grasp this group's attention for the full 8 hours of opening time.

The other part of me wonders if it'd be best to go on a different day when we can arrive early per RTN's suggestion and also take in all of the awesomeness that apparently is the Vekehrshaus.

I took our five and three year old the other day and there was more than enough for them to do ( and they've been many times before).

Favourite things to do for that age included operating the hot air balloon model, shunting the wooden toy trains, going on the miniature live steam railway, playing with the toy cars and playing with all the outside stuff.

At that age, the 'doing' stuff is more interesting than the 'watching stuff'.

Thanks for the tip. We ended up arriving at noon at eating a picnic lunch there and by 5 pm, we had done and seen all that they wanted to for the day. Enjoyed hanging out along the lake afterwards. Great little day trip!

The line for the flight simulator wasn't an issue for us, since kids have to be quite a bit older to even be a passenger for the airplane simulator. The enjoyed the helicopter one though and that line moves quicker.

Re: How is Museum of transport in Lucerne?

It's a great museum - for kids and adults, it seems. I just went with my parents and in-laws and everyone loved it. I saw tons of kids having a lot of fun - particularly in the courtyard area, which has a lot of fun play areas set up. I saw one kid very seriously loading up boxes with a mini-gantry and then loading them onto mini-trains

Is the aeroplane simulator also open in rainy days? Like this week?
