Pilots

Hi all EFrs out there,

I am interested to know if there is a lot of active Pilots in the expat community.
Are you flying for fun or business or perhaps as your occupation.

For the Americans as well as other FAA rated guys and girls out there ! How do you go about your BFR here in Europe ?

All replies will be highly welcome..

Best Regards
SV

There are several pilots here ...... they're obviously all a bit self-pontious.

Nearly 20 yrs. ago I undertook flight training in SoCal and attained FAA PPC.
Unfortunately, I was fresh into time-building and just got a complex rating, when my circumstances changed, and returning to UK, it wasn't possible to continue.

Therefore, I got my foot on the bottom rung, but don't consider myself to be a pilot ....... although my Swiss wife likes to refer to me as one, depending on to whom she's talking (as she likes to also refer to me as an English teacher because I have a TESOL qualification and once gave some private lessons)

Me .... I just consider myself to be multi-faceted JOATMON.

Re: Pilots

Hi Viking.

U beat me to it. I am new to the Basel area and don't want my PPL to go stale so have wondering the same thing.

A guy next to me in temp apartment saw my AOPA cap and recommended the flugschule at Basel airport. They have a nice selection in their fleet including a 172 and DA-40. I have also found fields near Rheinfelden and between here and Mulhouse. All three fields have clubs/schools and websites.

I've posted to two of them but no reply yet. Maybe I need to go introduce myself. Anyone have advice on that?

If you have any luck - please share. I'll do the same.

BTW- what do you normally fly? I'm mostly 172 but I do get back to the US occasionally and am working on my tail dragger and complex certs right now. Maybe we can grab a beer sometime?

Re: Pilots

I have a PPL as well, VFR only, mostly 172's in So Cal, but also a generous sprinkling of airports around the world through travel. I have a BFR due around now, so any leads you have on that would be much appreciated.

I would also be up for a beer with fellow pilots and a joint trip into the Alps by plane if anyone interested ....

I know SoCal covers a lot of acreage, and with many Municipal Airports, but just curious to know where you mainly flew out of; as many flight schools and renters, that I was familiar with in Greater L.A., seemed to favour 152s ..... only a few places (including my old flight school) seemed to have 172s - but that was then; things have probably changed.

Re: Pilots

My Mistake, should have read NOR Cal. San Carlos (KSQL) incidentally, just outside the SFO International Class-B.

Though I have done some rides in SO-Call as well, MYF & CLD nearer San Diego, all around the LA Basin, between Santa Barbara and Paso Robles.

I see a lot more 172's than 152's. Probably because many rental/school fleets are using private planes on a lease-back. The owners themselves like 172's for the alleged purpose of taking the family out for a $100 hamburger.

Hey Borinquen,

Looks like I am a little late to the party... I like both your suggestions though. Did you find anyone? I fly out of Hausen am Albis, 10min north of Zuger See. Always looking for someone to share a ride through the mountains!

Best
Christian
