Caumasee

Hi!
I would like to visit this place that from the pics looks wonderful!
Wondering if someone has tips to get there from Zurich and if there are other special places to visit nearby it, once there.
Thank you

Train/Postauto takes about 2hours to Caumasee.
Flims/Laax is a big skiarenea.

The lake is more of a summer destination.
Riverrafting down the Vorderrhein is also great.

Re: Caumasee

It's a nice lake indeed just like the pictures you've seen or probably better!

I have never been there by public transport and parking is not easy to find specially on a hot summer day.

I wouldn't want to go in the winter it's really just a summer destination as previously pointed out. It's also not free but understandably a small fee of CHF5 - CHF10 (can't remember) to get into the swimming area and access the restaurant is expected to support the infrastructure for such a nice place.

Re: Caumasee

Are there any other places similar to Caumasee near the ZH/SG/SZ area?

i.e. mountain lake but with decent infrastructure?

Yes, there's a short (9Km) hike that leads to the Senda Ruinaulta -the Swiss Rhine Gorge and a cool observation post. From there you carry on until the Caumasee and well-deserved Swim before a short walk back to the car park/bus stop.

All details here

I can second this - great views on the walk and Caumasee is lovely; hopefully the OP has already been.

On my question though - are there any similar places in the SG/ZH/SZ sort of area? (Want to try somewhere new that's also high enough to be bit cooler).

Re: Caumasee

Go while you can. The building of the tunnel bypass round Flims has negatively affected the water flow into the lake and it is slowly emptying (1 metre lower already). They're looking for a solution but there's a fair chance that this will affect the colour of the lake water.

Re: Caumasee

Sorry - did not see the date of the original post.

To answer you, have you been to the Kloentalersee? There's no infrastructure like the Caumasee but there are WCs and restaurants and you can swim in the lake (we have).

You can walk from one end to the other (7km) and get the Post Bus back.

Isn't that news from 2007/8?

We went in ca. 2012 and the water looked to be about the level of the normal shoreline, certainly not a meter lower. If they hadn't fixed it I'd expect it to be empty by now!

The Klöntal walk is in deep shade nearly all the way (under trees AND at the foot of a steep north-facing slope.) It's actually a really good tip for weather like this.

Read something a week or two back. OTOH it was in our local paper which is about as up-to-date as the local so it wouldn't surprise me if they've just caught up with the news.
