Indoor destination ideas for small kids - Geneva/Lausanne

Hi,

We're staying in cramped temporary accommodation while we settle here in Switzerland. With the rainy weather we are having lately, the kids are going a little stir crazy (and we're going just plane crazy!).

We're looking for any suggestions for indoor destinations that a 3 and 4 yr old might enjoy in and around Geneva - Nyon - Lausanne areas.

So where do you take the little ones to run off some steam during the wet weather?

Thanks for your replies.

Re: Indoor destination ideas for small kids - Geneva/Lausanne

Having just moved from Geneva, we can recommend Bains de Cressy (indoor heated pool) which is also nice for mom & dad as they have sauna, jacuzzi and hamman if you're into that sort of thing. As it's associated with HUG and was designed as a pool for physiotherapy, it's a bit pricey (20 chf), but a nice day in with kids just the same.

There's also Yatouland which we were going to try but never got around to it before the move. Found also a couple of other links for activities (in & out) in the area which may help.

Enjoy!

The caves in Vallorbe are pretty cool, and obviously you don't need to worry about the weather to go there. In addition to the walk through the caves there's also a display of precious gems and minerals from around the world called " Le Trésor des Fées " (the fairy treasures). My friends who were 4 and 6 when they visited really enjoyed both the caves and the 'treasures'.

Vallorbe caves website

There are also lots of ideas in the family excursion pages of myswitzerland.com.

Have fun!

Heather

Thank you to everyone who has posted suggestions.

We are going to have fun exploring the various places you've given us.

PS. Our German is a work in progress

Re: Indoor destination ideas for small kids - Geneva/Lausanne

Hi Heather M,

Just wanted to let you know that we took the family to the caves in Vallorbe this morning and had a great day. We were there early and had the whole caverns almost to ourselves.

The kids were a bit nervous at first but enjoyed moving from feature to feature especially when they realised that there were buttons to push lighting each new cavern (our kids are easily amused!).

Given the recent weather the river inside the cavern was really raging and added a great atmosphere to the final part of the caverns.

Best regards.

Re: Indoor destination ideas for small kids - Geneva/Lausanne

I know exactly what it's like...
here are some of our tried and tested rainy day ideas:
- IKEA in Aubonne, if the kids are old enough to stay in the playland on their own (from the age of 3)
- Signal de Bougy, they have a very nice indoor play area.
- La vallee de la jeunesse in Lausanne. There are other indoor places provided by the 'espace prevention de la cote', e.g. in Morges or Nyon, but the one in Lausanne is the most exiting.
- different activities at 'Edukids' in St-Sulpice
- 'children's palace' in Lausanne, on the expensive side, though
- 'Yatouland' in Geneva, can get a bit scary and loud for very little ones (and parents)
Have fun!
