Re: Your tips, pros and cons re Swiss ski resorts

For anyone living near Geneva with a family I would suggest Flaine, it's ugly but great skiing for all levels of skiers.

If money is no object then Verbier is good for all abilities except total beginners, with partying to match.

For advanced skiers I would head for Argentiere in the Chamonix Valley, had a fantastic powder day on Sunday in sunshine on the glacier, will head back this afternoon

My wife was there a few weeks back with friends from home and said exactly the same thing. She said if we were to ever go back as a family, to stay in Les Carroz, which is prettier, more accessible and you can still easily access the Flaine ski area.

Re: Your tips, pros and cons re Swiss ski resorts

Interesting- I did an advanced/course organiser ski course in Les Carroz years ago (with Fred Foxon, Fatmansfilm) and there was not enough snow- and not even in Flaine. Can't remember for the life of me where to, but we had to bus into the valley and up every day- get back late then do theory, avalanche awareness, etc and videos, etc, till late at night. But will have to try it again, thanks.

Another favourite when I was young, and great access from Lausanne, was Les Marécottes. Anyone been lately and can comment.

Not in Switzerland, but Chamonix was great! Good terrain variety. We stayed in Argentiere which was affordable and had a cute town. The lift was a short walk away. If you want to ski Chamonix proper you would have to drive or bus over from Argentiere. It would be nicer to stay in Chamonix but is also more expensive.
