Activities near Zurich

Hey!
I'm new to the forum, and I've just moved to Zurich a few weeks ago...
My girlfriend is visiting in a few days for a week, and I was looking for things do over the weekend.

I saw a few places have Tin Tobogganing, and that some ski resorts are still open until the end of May, if we wanted to go sledding. Does anyone know any places that are easily accessible from Zurich by train where we could so something like that?

or any other suggestions for some fun activities near Zurich?

Thanks in advance,
Adam

Re: Activities near Zurich

start off with a walking tour of Zurich and also the neighbouring areas, I can recommend knowing more about your own city

Thanks for the reply.
I was planning on going around Zurich in the week, after I have finished work, as apparently its going to be sunny this week.....

And was hoping to get out of Zurich for the weekend, as see some 'typical' swiss countryside......mountains etc

take the slow train to Bellizona and Lugano using a day pass

Or hit Bern and have a walk about there, a very nice city.

Re: Activities near Zurich

Hi,

If you like long walks/hiking, you can do a tour of the hills:
ZH HB -(train)-> Uetliberg (someone on EF recommended recently the restaurant there) -(hike ~5km)-> Felsenegg -(cablecar)-> Adliswil -(train)-> ZH HB
I only know the Felsenegg / Adliswil side and it's very nice on clear days, with beautiful views of the lake and the city

Or Rapperswil-Jona, farther away by train, with a small castle, nice old town square and a walk over the the lake (chek it out on Google Maps Satelite view)

The closest ski resort is Flumserberg, accesible by train in cca 1.5h. But they don't seam to have tobbogans opened (http://www.flumserberg.ch/Winter-en/Home-en).

Enjoy!

Apart from exploring the local area, I would head for Lucerne. It offers a sample of most that Switzerland has to offer within a small area. Mountains, lake, city, old town, culture, history and countryside. Take your choice

Re: Activities near Zurich

Be careful about ski resorts being 'open' so late in the season, as this will usually be upper slopes only, and sledding tracks are more often at the base of the mountain. Even if the ski runs to village level are open, you should specifically check whether there are also sledging areas open.

Right now, for instance, I see that the sledge run in Engelberg is not open today, but that's more likely due to too much snow, as we had a lot fall over the weekend. Usually websites will list opening on any given day, but won't always show if they're finished for the season or not.

Actually, just found that the Titlis site does indeed show that, and they will not be open again this season. http://www.titlis.ch/en/ski-resort/transportation
