Re: 2-3 day trip to Interlaken?

Hi Friends,

http://www.swisspasses.com/railpass/...60457586914551

I found this regional pass very useful and made the purchase. It covers one trip to Jungfraujoch also. While the pass covers many trips; I wish to take help from you guys to book hotels for the two nights between three days. Are there any recommended places where I need to book my hotel or come back to Interlaken on each day? I want to know if I fall short of time to make use of the pass and see most of the places while enjoying activities that are good; especially skiing or gliding; I am beginner anyway.

BTW, do I need to care for reservations for few trains within that region? Especially for the trip to Jungfraujoch with VIP pass.

I am already thankful to all you guys for the wonderful help you provide.

Hello there. I am planning to go to Interlaken from Zurich for few days with my dear wife. I am using this link as a kind of rough guide but still feel a bit lost as I am not sure about distances between the various places on that link. We have halb tax rail card so public transport it will be. We just want to get fresh air, relax and walk in beautiful romantic scenery. Not interested in any of the sports activities.
Is it convenient to make our base in Interlaken and then visit places 360° around it? Like Jungfrau, Lake Thun+Brienz and other nearby places that you guys might recommend? I remember hearing about a place which is like a museum of houses from all over Switzerland. Do you know what that place is called? Is it near Interlaken?

Which area should we book our hotel in to be nicely located? There seems to be more than one train station in Interlaken. Any cheap clean 3*** type of hotel you could recommend? Not interested in bells and whistles as we will be out most of the time. The cheaper the hotel the longer our stay. 2-3 day trip enough for the 360° thing that I was talking about? Thanks for any advice.
Do not miss lauterbrunnen !! Beautifull and you can book a 2 star good condition .great staff accomidation and amazing views .It will be very romantic . Hotel site is :http://www.staubbach.com/index2.htm You also have wengen and Murren

Magical Lauterbrunnen

Every restaurant and hotel in the whole area has brochures galore of things to do in the region. We stayed in Wengen last year and hiked all over hell and creation. It is a very special place. I would have to say, though, that of all the towns in the area and vistas and wildflowers and general "Swissiness", Interlaken would be my last choice. Go up into the mountains!

Hey,

Would you recommend any Guest House, non-commercial place to stay in Wengen or Lauterbrunnen?

Thanks,

That would be the Ballenberg museum which is close to Brienz.
It's about a 25 minute train ride to Brienz then 15 minutes more by bus. It's truly worth it but expect to make a whole day out of it as there's lots to see and lots of walking.

Agreed! But while changing trains (if the visibility is good) I will take a walk to the Höhematte to see once again the classic view of the Jungfrau, framed by two hills, across the meadow.

Then I will get back on the train to Mürren
